Backstory of Kai and Nya:
They lived a normal life, with Maya and Ray. The summer before they started high school, their parents went on a vacation, alone.
They didn't come back, so Kai and Nya ended up homeless. They met Skylor and Jay, and they took them into their house.
Skylor and Jay's parents joined them in high school, until Maya and Ray returned, explaining they had survived a plane crash.
Now, enjoy the story.
A few days later, Jay stared out his window. Suddenly he saw the guys at the basketball court. The guys he always played with.
One of them nodded to Jay, as in to say, "come join us!" but he shook his head, and a tear fell down his cheek. Then he closed the curtains.
Head down, he wiped his eyes and walked out of the room. The gleaming crimson door was open across the hall, and he entered.
There was Skylor, in bed. She was crying too, while Edna (their mom) was giving her a plate of pasta and sitting down next to her. Jay approached them, and sat beside his sister.
"Y-you okay, big sis?" he asked her. She nodded. "Mom says we can go to school tomorrow again." Jay looked at Edna. But she just nodded and didn't smile. "It'll be okay, sis. You too, Mom. We'll stick together." he said, "always."

Nya Smith was not feeling well that morning. In fact, she was all queasy, and felt like she would throw up.
And Kai wasn't feeling any better. He'd been up last night crying, which left him with black circles under his eyes.
The two sat together on the bus, but barely said a word. They both headed off to Ms. Uhea's class, feeling down. The teacher hadn't arrived yet.
But surprisingly, a few minutes after they sat down, Jay walked into the classroom, his face pale, and Skylor behind him in crutches.
Nya gasped. "Skylor, Jay?" she stood up and ran over to Skylor. "What happened?"
Jay tapped her shoulder. He shook his head and mouthed, "no." Nya obeyed.
She helped Skylor sit down, and took a seat herself. Kai glanced at Jay. "What?" he seemed to ask.
Jay sighed. Then he leaned over and whispered in Kai's ear. "Well, we were on our way home, when..."
"When...we were on the highway. Then..."
~Flashback~
Ed was in the driver's seat, and Skylor and Jay were in the back. None of them had their seatbelts on.
On the highway, the side fence had a little broken part, so they had to be careful.
Just then, a car came crashing at the back window, shattering next to Jay's face. He jumped, and Skylor held him close.
Ed rolled down the window, and yelled out, "Idiot!" just as the car slipped.
Skylor's heart pounded. They had gotten stuck to the broken fence, hanging onto the edge of the road, above a deep cliff.
"Dad! W-we're going to fall, Dad!" Jay yelled out as fast as he can.
Jay was mumbling prayers when the car (and the broken part of the fence) tumbled down the cliff.
Skylor let out a loud scream, still clutching onto Jay. The driver's side of the car slammed into a tree, crushing that part of the car.
When the car stopped rolling, the siblings ran out of the car, toward the tree. Skylor took a look.
Nope. She couldn't see their dad, but she knew he was not safe in there. Jay began to cry, and sank to the floor.
Skylor called 911, and it was final. Their dad was dead, and there was no getting him back.
He had just been scolding some idiot for harming his children. Trying to keep him safe. But now...he was gone.
~Present day~
At lunch, Skylor and Jay came over, being helped by Kai and Nya. The other four gasped.
"You're alive, you two! You're alive!" squealed Harumi. "What the heck happened to you, Skylor?" Vania asked.
Kai whispered in her ear. "Their dad died," he said. She gasped again, shaking her head. "Oh. My. Goodness."
"This is not good."
