"Why do things like this always have to happen?" Vania whispered. "Can't we get a break?"

Vania's voice sounded different all of a sudden. The breezy hint was gone, and replaced with a groggy, croaked voice that kept on cracking while she talked.

"Vani, it's okay," Skylor patted her back a little.

Just then the left side door flung open, and Cole and Lloyd stepped out, carefully leading a very tired Harumi out of the room.

"Nya! Where's Nya! I want to see--" Rumi started to ramble, but then she opened her eyes and saw the trio outside.

"Didn't they let you in?" she asked. Skylor shook her head. "They said only family's allowed."

"So they just left Kai in there? No one's gonna support him? We're all family, we should be let in too!" Rumi complained.

She ran up to the room Nya was in. "Rumi, no! Wait!" Vania called, but then she stopped in front of the door. She leaned her head on the door and listened.

She heard crying; hysterical -- and not even a muster of Kai's voice.

"I think Kai's in shock, he's not talking," Rumi spoke up. "And Nya is still--"

"Skylor, Skylor, Skylor! They didn't let you in?" Maya boomed from across the hall and ran up to the six of them.

"Of course not. They don't count us as Nya's family. They said only family allowed," Jay croaked, glancing warily at Cole and Lloyd.

Maya knocked on the door. "Nya? Kai?" they all heard a gasp, and then Kai flung it open. Maya stepped in, and Kai looked at Skylor for a split second. Their eyes locked and then he shut the door.

Skylor stared at all of them and shrugged. She patted Jay on the back. Just then Maya peeped her head out of the door. "You guys can come in, but be silent," she said.

Jay's face brightened a little and Skylor looked at Harumi, relieved.

Nya was still in critical condition, they all knew. But it was going to be okay.
