An hour or so had passed since the fire and the three were now sitting in Lucía's room. It was messy, unorganised and crowded, something Amelia only saw in her darkest dreams; could get lost in the chaosity.
Amelia took comfort in the bean bag slumped in the corner of the room, it was accompanied by an acoustic guitar and large shelves filled with vinyl; it's a wonder that the Blight hadn't discovered Lucía's musical talent sooner, though she must admit after all these years she had never stepped a foot in this room. It was strange. The pair had known eachother for most of their lives and only at this moment was there any sense of comfort between them.
It seemed Wionna didn't have the same inner turmoil Amelia did, they sloppily dived straight onto Lucía's bed as if it were an action of their natural instinct.
Unfamiliarly, Lucía seemed timid and anxious, strange for someone entering their own room and especially strange since Lucía Noceda was the person in question.
"Is everything alright?" Amelia pondered.
The Noceda perked up, "Yeah- Yes, just excuse the mess, Wionna is the only one who usually comes in here"
Wionna, completely oblivious to the conversation, simply responded by sticking their a thumb of approval in the air, earning a weak giggle from their peers.
Amelia refocused her attention to Lucía, she was stood still at ease at the door way and shuffling what mess she could into piles on the floor to attempt to lower the intensity of her predicament. The Blight had never seen her this way, so vulnerable and shy, there wasn't much of a relationship between them but they weren't strangers and as far as Amelia was concerned, Lucía had nothing to be embarrassed about, at least not by Amelia anyway. If anything, she felt the need to voice this, calm Lucía, anything, the sudden desire to help burned inside of her.
"Since when did you care about other people's opinions, very out of character Noceda", Amelia teased playfully, rewarded by a bright smile she had been yearning to see, a wave of relief filling the Blight.
The slice in tension didn't seem to last long, though Lucía's nerves were settled, a deafening silence echoed. Wionna had completely took over any seating space left as they slowly but surely drifted into sleep, leaving little place for the Noceda to sit other than the floor, which was colonised with god knows what, or on what little space was free on the bean bag, with Amelia. Comfortingly, Amelia scoots over, patting the space she had made beside her, signalling the girl over. Though reluctant, surely enough, she accepted, creeping over in an attempt to keep her friend asleep whilst lowering herself onto the inconveniently loud chair. The two were now shoulder to shoulder, this being the most prolonged contact they'd had since the rooftop kiss situation.
Within a matter of seconds, they locked eyes, or you could say Amelia caught Lucía in a daze, it would be the perfect opportunity to call her out like the Noceda did to her and yet she couldn't find the words. She was entrapped within the girl's gaze, a feeling arising more sincere than any embrace or contact the two had ever experienced before.
Lucía cleared her throat, "so hermosa, it feels like it's been a while since we properly spoke, how've you been?" She spoke softly with her attempt of small talk, and though Amelia appreciated the ice breaker she can't help but reminisce in the tension they held prior.
"Oh you know, the usual auto pilot routine, home, school, home and repeat" the Blight responded.
Lucía chuckled quietly, "how exciting" She received a smile. "Have you got any brilliant ideas for our chemistry project?"
Amelia rolled her eyes, "the only thing I know for sure about chemistry is if I have to memorise anymore elements then it'll be the star of my academic burnout" earning a short lived laugh from Lucía at the realisation of her inability to maintain an 'inside voice.'
"Who would've guessed Amelia Blight had humour?" Followed by Amelia smirking and shrugging in unison. Lucía continued to ramble.
"We should spend more time together Ams, I feel like I know you so well and yet I don't know you at all" She explained what Amelia felt in such simple terms. "And turns out you might not be a total bore-fest" Of course, this earned a big shove to the Noceda as they playfully began to torment each other but in a much more sincere manner than they ever had previously.
Once satisfied Lucía was aware Amelia was offended by her comment, the two were still together again, making the Blight once again hyper focus on how close they actually were. Due to trying to stay on the seat during their 'fight' Lucía had inched closer, they were now glued to each other and to make matters worse Amelia wanted nothing more to somehow be nearer. Was this the imbedded feeling of her desire for affection after the incident of her family? Or perhaps her need to be validated by everyone? Or were those just more excuses for these complex feelings she couldn't explain? Despite the gut-turning anxiety bubbling in her stomach, her urges became almost primitive, beyond her immediate controlled responses and with that she cautiously rested her head onto Lucía's shoulder.
Everything was still, no words, no emotions, nothing. Two statuettes in undisturbed silence, awkward, awkward silence.
Within seconds of Amelia's feelings of regret and embarrassment bubbled into her mind, Lucía warmly offered her embrace, tracing her arm gently across the shoulders of the Blight, followed by reciprocating tenderness as Lucía lowered her head onto hers. With this validation the two inched closer with each other, inseparable by any means.
Without any psychological obstacles, Amelia found herself drifting off to the obnoxiously loud snoring of Wionna contrasted by the safe hold Lucía had around her.
"Buenas noches, Amelia"
".....goodnight?" She mumbled. Lucía hummed confirmingly.
"Goodnight Lucía"
