Twenty-one
Matt's sudden movement wakes me and I sigh turning to look at him getting out of bed. I sigh and rub my eyes careful not to move my right arm too much to avoid causing any more pain than necessary. I push a hand through my hair as I look around his—now our bedroom that is still cluttered with boxes of my stuff even after three days of trying to move in. I yawn and groan when I see the alarm clock reads 6:30a.m. reaching for Matt's pillow to throw at him as he goes in the bathroom.
"Do you have to work so early?" I ask as he chuckles at me and turns to look at me tossing the pillow back on the bed making Bear jump up from his spot below my feet.
"Would you rather me work nights?" Matt says in a rough morning voice that I've found sexy and runs a hand through his messy hair yawning as well. "And I didn't tell you to wake up."
"No." I quickly answer and know that it's would be hard for us if he worked nights because I know that we both enjoy the nightly routine that has developed over the month of our relationship. "I know you didn't but I was really cozy until you got up."
"I'm sorry, baby but you know I have to work." He says and sighs coming over to my side of the bed kissing my head. "Go back to sleep and I'll be as quiet as I can."
I sigh and watch him walk back to the bathroom shutting the door to keep the sounds at a minimum. I groan knowing that now I won't be able to get back to sleep and sit up to grab my glasses from the nightstand before I get up. I sigh and look in the mirror over the dresser glad that the bruises along my face have disappeared but the stitches on my head and shoulder have yet to dissolve. I was grateful when the nurse said I won't have to have these stitches removed or even come back thanks to Matt's expertise.
By late Monday afternoon, Matt, Jeremy and I had left the Hampton's to return to the busy city and get Jeremy settled in my
"Didn't I tell you to go back to sleep?" Matt asks bringing me back to the present and comes behind me to wrap his arms around my waist.
"Cuddling with Bear just isn't the same." I say and turn to him biting my lip as I look up at him his hair still wet from the shower. "Do you have to go?"
"Unfortunately yes, sweetheart." He says and kisses my forehead as I gently run my fingers over the thin cut from the night my father came that has scabbed over. "You know I much rather stay in bed with you and have another lazy day."
"I know, baby." I mutter and lean my head on his shoulder careful with my right shoulder as I slip my arms around his waist sighing softly when his familiar scent washes over me.
"I'll try to come home for lunch, okay?" He says and kisses my head rubbing back gently as he pulls away to grab his uniform pants to pull on.
"No, I'll come meet you. I want to get out for a bit." I say and nod watching him get dressed as I grab my sling off the bedside table.
"Are you hurting any?" Matt asks and buttons up his shirt to hide the bruises the cover his left side tucking it into his pants as he watches me.
"Not right now but I try not to move much." I answer and fix the strap as I head towards the door to go downstairs going in the kitchen to fix some coffee.
"Bear, come here." Matt calls as he comes downstairs and heads to the back door letting Bear outside as always in the morning.
I grab both our mugs from the cupboard and lean against the counter waiting on the coffee to brew. A few boxes sit around the kitchen area with my third of the kitchen from my apartment and I have been working on organizing it with Matt's things lucky that we both have basic sets of dishes. I smile and Matt comes in to put food out for Bear watching him refill the water bowl before he grabs a breakfast bar from the basket near me.
