Seven
"Shut up!" I gasp out and laugh in disbelief holding my side in pain but can't stop my laughter. "Your family owns five different homes?"
"I know it's insane and we don't even use all them anymore." Matt says as if this justifies how his family owns that many homes and turns on the street I told him to.
After spending most of the day talking to each other and getting to know one another, I told him I thought it would be best if I went home to shower. I had started to feel a bit grimy from being caught in the rain last night and as much as I like Matt, I rather shower with my own things. I look over at him and smile a bit not believing that this is happening. I sigh and bite my lip wondering what will happen next. Will this be my everyday life with him? A comfortable, safe and secure life sounds like an incredible dream compared to what I've lived through.
"Where are these homes?" I ask curiously and want to know so I can at least dream of the possibility of going to them with him.
"Well, we have two here in New York, one in London, Paris, and Tuscany." He answers and gently squeezes my fingers before letting go to turn the steering wheel. "The one in Paris is more for my grandmother because she lived there for years with my grandfather."
"Oh that's right, I remember her stories." I smile and nod remembering how many times I listened to Mrs. Williams' tell me all about her late husband who passed away a few years ago.
"My favorite is the way he proposed." Matt says a bit wistfully and smiles taking my hand again.
"On the Eiffel Tower, right?" I ask and lace my fingers with his.
He nods and smiles softly driving up the street.
"It's just up here on the right." I tell him and bite my lip as he parks just in front of my apartment building. I look up to the windows to see no one is looking out ours, which is the fourth from the bottom and I undo my seatbelt. I open the passenger door and look up at Matt who has already come around the car to offer his hand to me. I smile and take it getting out of the car grabbing my purse from last night. I look at him and sigh biting my lip as I wonder if he should come up with me to meet my friends.
"At least let me walk you to the door..." Matt looks at me and gently squeezes my hand biting his lip.
"Alright only because that look you're giving me is too adorable to say no to." I say honestly and pull him with me to the doors pulling my keys out of my purse to open the door. "Just don't judge me by my crazy friends."
"I think I already like you a bit too much to judge you by your friends." He says as we walk in kissing my cheek and we head to the elevator. "What floor, my lady?"
"Four, kind sir." I say with a laugh and wince holding my side. "Don't make me laugh, it hurts."
"I'm sorry, baby." He says and pushes the '4' button pulling me into his arms gently. "You need to be careful when you shower."
"I know and I can wrap myself after or Mel can help me." I tell him and bite my lip remembering the few times Mel and Rose have helped bandage me up.
"Why don't I come by before work tomorrow morning to check? I just need to know you're okay."
"We'll see." I say a bit embarrassed to have him drive out of his way to check on me tomorrow and take his hand when the elevator comes to stop on my floor.
"Victoria, please?" He asks and turns me to him gently cupping my face. "I want to see that you're okay and put fresh stitches on face or something..."
"Matt, I-I..." I trail off unable to deny him while he's making those puppy eyes at me and stroking my cheeks tenderly. "How early will you be?"
"I can be here around five or I can make my partner stop here at some point." He says and gently tucks a piece of hair behind my ear. "I know it's early but I want to make sure you're okay."
