Ten
The next night I am in bed after spending most of the day at school finishing everything to graduate on Friday night and look at pictures that I keep in a shoebox temporarily. I sigh happily and think about my life here for the past four years smiling softly as I remember all the fun times I've had with my friends. I find a picture of me with Rose and Mel from freshman year after we had just moved in together and in the background are a bunch of boxes scattered around us. I smile softly and look at a few more pictures getting up to put one picture in a frame by my TV across from my bed. I turn when my phone rings and go grab it seeing it's Matt who said he would call after work.
"Hey, Matt." I answer the phone and sit on the bed seeing it is almost nine at night. "Are you just getting off?"
"Um Victoria, this is Jake."
"What's happened?" I ask immediately worried knowing that being a paramedic can be dangerous at times and bite my lip.
"He got in a fight and needs stitches but they won't let him go without a family member signing for him." Jake says.
"But I'm not..." I trail off and look down at my ring sighing.
"He said he can't call anyone else for this and you're his wife, which counts as family."
"He told you?" I ask and get up grabbing my wallet from my duffel bag.
"Yeah, I think it's kind of funny." Jake say with a chuckle.
"Glad we entertain you." I mutter and grab a purse I use instead of my duffel bag putting my stuff in it. "What hospital?"
"Bellevue."
"Let me talk to Matt, please." I say and sit down on my bed putting the phone on speaker as I put my shoes on. I raise a brow when I hear the two men argue for a moment quietly.
"No...she is going to kill me!" Matt's voice says sounding annoyed.
"I know and that's what is funny." Jake says laughing and I hear the phone being passed around.
"Hey, baby..." Matt says and I hear him sigh.
"Don't baby me right now. What happened?" I ask quickly and pick up the phone again. "Why would I kill you for this?"
"Because you have to come get me." He answers quickly and I get the feeling he isn't telling me something.
"I don't have to." I say annoyed and grab a jacket to pull on.
"Victoria!" He exclaims and groans. "Please, come get me and I will tell you everything."
"I'm leaving now." I say and grab my purse after pulling on my jacket.
"Can you go by my place and get me some clothes?"
"Yeah but I don't have a key." I say and go write a note for Mel on the pad on the fridge telling her I will call when I can.
"I have one hidden under the dog figurine on the steps and you can keep that one." He says and I sigh leaving the apartment taking the stairs so I can stay on the phone.
"Alright, I'll be there as soon as I can." I say and push my hair back. "But you know you owe me again."
"I think I owe you more each time we talk, Tori." Matt says and hisses groaning slightly.
"What hurts?" I ask with a frown and head outside walking up the sidewalk.
"The numbing shot."
"That hurts more than the stitches." I say and sigh stopping when I reach the subway station. "I'm going to get on the train now and I'll be there when I can."
