Chapter 13

 As I'm making my way to the house, Rose and Jared walk up to me.

"Mom, how are you feeling?" Rose asks.

I smile when I hear her voice. I haven't seen her because she just found her true mate Jared. They are still in that stage where they only see each other and rarely come up for air. It's good to see that Jared's calm demeanor has an effect on Rose's fiery one.

"I'm fine darling." I say going in for a hug. I look at Jared standing in protector mode behind her being serious.

I smile at him and open my arms. "Come here."

He looks confused then I remember that his parents died when he was young so it's been a while for him to have "motherly love". Rose pushes him into my awaiting arms.

"I know we're wolves and I'm Alpha-mate but you're my daughter's mate which makes you my son in-law. When mom wants a hug you give her one." I say in his ear.

He relaxes into the hug and gently squeezes me.

I pull away and say," I'd give you a better hug but I'm all belly right now so it'll have to wait."

"I was just checking on you. I haven't talked to you much. I also heard that you have a new bodyguard and wanted to meet him." Rose says, looking at Bevan.

"Oh, I completely forgot I'm sorry. Bevan, this is my oldest daughter Rose."

He smiles and says, "Hi Rose. It's nice to meet you. I guess we'll be meeting alot since I just got hired."

"Yea, that's fine and all but I only have one thing to say to you. If any harm comes to my mother or the babies she's carrying y, you'll have to deal with me." She says, crossing her arms and trying to stare him down fiercely. I laugh because she's really trying to be all Alpha and it's too cute.

"Umm. Ok, duly noted." he says with a smile and a nod.

She keeps staring and I see Jared touch her elbow lightly which seems to snap her back.

"Good. Since we have an agreement I'm going to find Alex."

"Awww, you miss your sister." I say feeling sentimental.

"Nope." she says with a pop of the "p" sound.

"She has gone long enough without my irritation and what is a big sister for if not to harass the younger ones?" she says and starts her hunt for her prey. I giggle and say to Bevan, "Sorry? I raised her but you wouldn't know it from the temper. She is an opinionated one but she's soft and mushy on the inside."

Bevan looks down the path she took and says, "It's good that she's so protective. It's how it should be when you have loved ones."

I don't think he knew I could hear the longing and loneliness.

I'm laying in the bed looking at the ceiling wondering if I made a good decision to stay. I have to admit that this pack runs well. They are happy with each other too. Well, except for those two from this afternoon. I know that the guy, Chad, is going to need to be watched but what bothers me more is the way that the woman was staring at Violet. I didn't like the look in her eyes. I need to dig up information on her. She could become a problem in the future. I made a mental note to find out more about her. This seems and feels like a good pack.

Thinking about my original pack makes me sad and mad. I feel like this pack is one that accepts you for being you. My original pack was as closed minded as you can get.

Considering we're werewolves you'd think they would have an open mind.

It wasn't my fault I was better than most of them. It wasn't my fault that I liked to smile and it was contagious. It damn sure wasn't my fault he liked the way I looked.
