This town hasn't changed too much. Just a lot more people coming and going. Looking at all the stores that have popped up with people hustling around. Okay, scratch that, maybe it has gotten bigger. It's been 20 years since I stayed here for any long length of time. I've visited mom and dad but that was a 2 or three day stay then I left again. I've never blamed them for sending me away because it really was for the best.
I was small for my age, which made kids pick on me. If you add in the fact that I have white hair and teal eyes that up the ante but the fact that I am the only snow leopard in the pack, that made me a pariah. The only person that befriended me was Elijah. He protected me when I needed it and showed me that not all wolves were assholes and the biggest asshole was Chad. I remember the night I left, it was supposed to be a proud moment for me because I had finally told him what I really felt.
20 years ago.....
I did it. I finally did it. I told him what I felt after all this time. I know he doesn't feel that way for me and it's ok. I'll leave and come back stronger and I'll get over him so I can stay by his side. I know he has a true mate that he needs to have an heir with.
I slow down as I get closer to the house. I can't hide the smile on my face.
"I can't believe you did that."
I turn at the sound of the voice. It's Chad. Did he see?
"I don't know what you're talking about."
He steps out of the trees into my backyard. "Yes you do. I was coming to find you to tell you I finally admit to loving you and you're kissing someone else behind my back!"
"What do you mean behind your back? You hate me, remember. You've said it a million times, especially while beating me up."
"I didn't mean to hurt you that bad but if I hadn't done it the others would have made it worse. It was the only way I could protect you. Don't you see?"
Chad takes a step towards me. I step back. "Chad, that's not how you show your love for someone. I'm only 13 and I know that."
He stalks towards me, unfortunately he's blocking my path to the house. I decided to make a run for it. I don't call my parents because I don't want them involved in this. I try to dash past him only to be tackled to the ground. Chad ends up on top pinning my arms to the side.
"All you have to do is accept my love and we can be together. What's so great about Elijah?"
"Let me go Chad."
He pins my hand with one of his. He weighs more than me and despite my struggling I can't get loose. He takes a strand of my hair in his hands and says, "When I kiss you I'll show you. You'll feel our connection. You'll know you're mine."
He leans in and puts his lips to mine and I bite his bottom one so hard it draws blood. He jerked back and let my hands go. When he tastes the blood he smacks me. Just as I was about to swing, someone tackled him in wolf form. I took that moment to run to the house. I looked back once only to see the attacker submitting.
I promised myself when I left I would get stronger so they couldn't run all over me again. I was sent to my aunt's pack the summer after school ended. She is my dad's sister and she agreed because she loves me like one of her own. She told us that there were leopard shifters that lived near her and that she talked to them about me, and they agreed to help me learn about being a leopard shifter. After 10 years I left her to explore the world. I've met all kinds of people and shifters. I was content with my life even though I still missed Elijah.
