𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐈 was amazed with what she had just done. she actually just yelled at her mother; mama d, she yelled at mama d over ricky. not only did she yell at her for jumping to conclusions with ricky, but she also called her out flr her shitty behaviour. that felt so good to get off my chest nini thought quietly to herself, as she sat at the top of her bed, sitting up on her covers.

but there was another part of her that was only focusing on one lf the things she said.
"yes, maybe he cheated on me, but do we know the full story? no, no we don't. so don't fucking jump to your shitty conclusions until you can understand their big picture!" the big picture. she didn't even know the big picture, she didn't know why he did it, but god damn did she want to. so, putting this moment of real confidence to use, nini pulled out her phone from her jeans pocket and dialed the number she was oh so familiar with and waited for an answer. "come on, please answer, come on ricky, please"

italics: nini
bold: ricky

"ricky? are you there?"
well this wasn't exactly what she was expecting, if we're being totally honest..
"oh my god, gina! stop! i'm not gonna be a doormat to you if you want to make nini jealous! for fucks sake i don't even know why you needed me to do it! you know, i don't even understand why you're so bitter about it anyways. it was a musical! you don't need to go out stealing peoples boyfriends and making them cheat or whatever your fucking plan was because someone got the role you wanted! nini deserved the part anyways. whatever you wanted to do, i was forced into it! i love nini! not you! you were my best friend for years, but i never looked at you in that way and neither did you! and don't you even dare think about saying we can go back to being best friends because i'm so fucking done with you. whatever, this, is, it's over. for good. now, please, leave gina."

"holy fucking shit. what did i just listen to?" nini mumbled mostly to herself, but it was loud enough for ricky to realise he had answered someones call.

"wait- nini?"
"oh uh, hey, ricky."
"oh my god i'm so sorry, how much of that did you hear?" he asked, worried that she might think of him differently now, seeing that whole other side of him. in the whole eleven years of them being best friends, and the one year of them dating, not once had nini heard ricky yell like that. especially not at someone who she thought was his best friend, gina.
"only everything."
"so you heard about gina wanting to make you jealous? because she wanted the part of gabriella in the musical?"
"yup."
"i'm so sorry i didn't tell you, neens. i was forced into it and was threatened that if i told you about what gina was trying to do, she would've tried to hurt you. like, really bad. physically and mentally. and-"
"-you didn't wanna take the risk." she finished for him, smiling to herself when she heard him say 'yep' from the other line.
"well then! i guess this answers the question that i was going to ask you."
"what question?"
"why you did it."
"oh. well, i guess you know now."
"okay ricky bowen, i have approximately 5 minutes until mama d comes and busts my bedroom door down so can i please, for the love of god, can i please come over?"
"of course. but you are telling me why the fuck she wants to bust your door down as soon as you get here." he laughs genuinely, the brunette chuckling lightly along with him, slipping on her white converse, heading towards the door, but not before sending a quick text to emma, telling her where she was heading and why.
"i'll be over in 10! bye ricky, love you!"
"okay! i'll see you, neens, love you too!"

and she was off.

inside nini's head.

that 'love you' was platonic. by the way.
wait- was it? did i mean it that way?
no no no
i couldn't have
could i?
