"Umbridge won't let us reassemble the quidditch team" Angelina said hollowly, "Said she needs 'time to think.'"
I looked past her at the twins, gaining a crowd as they demonstrated the puking pastilles, Lee vanishing the bucket of sick every time it got too full.
"She cant cancel quidditch - she's probably just dragging this out so that she has more power over us." I replied, frowning.
Alicia crossed her arms, "If she cancels us for good, she's got to know that she'll have an uprising on her hands. No quidditch for 2 years in a row? I'd like to see her try."
Katie nodded fiercely beside her, "Vile, vile woman."
We stood there trashing Umbridge for another good five minutes before I made my leave, slipping upstairs while the boys continued showing their wares to the crowd.Sitting down on the edge of my bed, I took a deep breath, watching as the sun began to set behind the scottish mountains.
Pointing my wand at my chest, I took another deep breath as I reacquainted myself with the feeling of the second heartbeat, before speaking aloud, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus"
As if the sky heard me, a loud rumble of thunder cracked through the sky, promising thunder.
For the last time, I scanned through Sirius' instructions, shoving them and the map into my jean pocket.
"Emily are you up there?" Fred called, prompting my return to the common room.
"How did you do?" I asked, jumping from the bottom step, "From what I saw everyone liked it."
"Liked it? They were practically stumbling over each other to buy some!" George grinned, shaking Lee's shoulder in excitement, making the boy groan.
"George please-"
"Oops sorry."
I looked at Fred expectantly, "So?"
"Check it out!" he replied, showing me the box of galleons, "We're about to count what we made, come on."
"I wish I could," I said, eyes darting to the door, "I've got to go see Poppy - not anything wrong with me, but I found some stuff I've forgotten to give back from last year." At his face, I placed my hands on his cheeks, bringing him in for a kiss, "I'm so proud of you."
He huffed, giving me a quick hug, "We'll tell you how much we made tomorrow."
"Thanks! Im sure you all did great!" I called, already halfway-out of the common room.As soon as the portrait swung close behind me, I took the map out of my pocket, making sure that the coast was clear before rushing to where I had hidden the crystal phial.
As lightning illuminated the hallway, I slipped into the little storage cupboard, casting lumos as the door swung closed behind me.
I cracked the window open to stave off the stuffiness of the small room, letting the fresh storm air enter.
I took Sirius' last page of instructions out, paying special attention to the scribbled advice at the bottom.Remember Emily, transforming for the first time can be rough. As silly as this might sound, it may be easier to strip before attempting it.
Laugh if you want, but James got his glasses melded to his face - that was not a pretty sight.
Oh, and it's gonna hurt like a bitch.Taking a deep breath, I opened the compartment that held the phial, letting out a quiet cheer at the sight of the dark red liquid.
"Time to strip" I murmured, laughing at the ridiculousness of what I was doing, "Please, no one come anywhere near here."
I put out the light, popping the top off of the phial with one hand and pressing the tip of my wand against my heart with the other.
At the returned feeling of the second heartbeat, I spoke, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus" before downing the potion in one go.I stood there for a moment, suddenly feeling stupid as nothing happened.
Then, overwhelmed with the sudden surge of fiery pain, I dropped to my knees, phial smashing against the floor.
My mouth opened in a silent scream, nerves feeling as if they were on fire. My fist clenched involuntarily, tears springing to my eyes.
After what felt like years, the pain began to be replaced by a tingling sensation, the room starting to feel less stifling.
With one last surge of pain, I blinked, vision blurry.
'Shit' I thought, trying to regain my senses.
Noise was the first thing I noticed - it was incredibly sharp, so much so that I could hear the breaths I was taking with insane clarity. I grabbed on to the sensation desperately, using it to help calm myself down.Once the threatening panic had subsided, I did a mental checklist.
Nothing had merged to my new form, not that I could tell anyway.
My wand was safely stowed on top of the pile of clothes. Check.
I was not a half-human half-animal mess. Good. Check.I looked around the room once more, suddenly noticing how big the room looked in comparison to earlier.
The lower shelves were still blurry to my eyesight, but the further away I looked, the more I could see.
I wasn't on four legs, that i could tell instantly, yet when I went to stretch my arms, I blanched.
'No bloody way'
I had wings. After a few attempts of flapping my wings, I began to rise through the air, aiming for the open window.
The second I felt the storm air ruffle through my feathers, I began to move on impulse, soaring through the air as if I had done it my whole life.
A screech escaped my mouth, as I flew up and up, finally catching my reflection in the castle windows.
An auburn owl stared back at me.
