The Future Together

Chapter 9

Alex went back inside our room to call Laura and David to inform them of a possible delay, as well as to call Addie's doctor. I went back to Addie's room with a container of water and a towel.

I place the container on the bedside table and brought a nearby chair beside the bed as I sat down and dipped the towel in the water.

I began to place the towel on Addie and the moment the towel makes contact with her she pushes my hand away.

"Mommy, it's cold" she says

"I know, darling. But I have to do this or your fever won't go away" I say and continue with my actions and soon she falls asleep.

I continue placing the towel on her as the door opens and Alex enters.

"What did the doctor say?" I ask as he walks towards us.

"For now she doesn't need to be brought to the hospital. Should the fever go up she said to give her medicine. If there are no changes after the medicine, then we should bring her" he explains as I nod.

"Mother's asking what time we will be arriving tonight" he quietly says

"Must we go? She's sick" I say

"You know the answer to that" he replies. It always had to be duty to the crown above all.

We were interrupted by a knock on the door, after a 'come in' from Alex the door is opened as David and Laura enter.

"We're sorry to interrupt. Unfortunately we must get going already" David says

"I won't be going" I say as they both turn to me.

"Ma'am with all due respect, this engagement requi-" Davud begins to say until I cut him off.

"I will not be going until Adelaide gets better"

"Could you leave us for a minute?" Alex asks them both as they nod before walking out.

"It wouldn't look good for all of us if we both don't appear today. I will go while you stay here with Addie. Call me if there's any changes. I will have Jason on standby should you need to take her to the hospital" he says as I nod. We talk for a few minutes as I quickly change before he leaves.

I sit beside Addie's bed the entire day as she would wake up every few hours.

When we moved here we hired one person only to help out witht the cooking and other chores as we don't really have all the time.

I asked her to prepare some soup for Addie, and when it arrived I helped Addie as she ate. I was also given a sandwhich and I ate with Addie.

"I'm full" she says as I sigh before nodding.

"Where's Daddy?" She asks as I move the bowl of soup away.

"He's at work. He was here earlier but you were sleeping" I say walking back towards the bed.

"Are you still not feeling well?" I asked as she nods.

I hugged her as I touched her forehead and she still was still hot "You just rest and you will feel much better in no time" I say as I continue to hold her and run my fingers through her hair until she falls asleep.

I lay her back down on the bed before taking a seat at the nearby chair.

.....A Few Hours Later.....

I wake up to the sound of the door closing to see Alex entering. I looked around the room and noticed it was already dark outside.

"Hey, how is she?" He asks approaching

"Last I checked, still the same" I say as I get up to check on her. I checked her temperature and noticed her fever wasn't getting any better, but rather the opposite. I quickly walk across the room to a nearby table.

"What are you doing?" He asks

"Medicine" I say as I grab her medicine and walk back towards the bed.

"We have to get going in a while" he says as I nod.

.....A Few Minutes Later.....

We packed our bags for the weekend and gave Addie some medicine before getting her ready.

I grab my bag as I walk towards Addie's room as I grab her backpack as well while Alex carries her towards the car.

We stay silent throughout the journey from our home to the palace while I sat beside Addie at the back. I didn't notice I fell asleep until Alex woke me up.

When we arrive we were greeted by Victoria as she approaches us and we greet her.

"Alex, your father is waiting for you in his office" she says as Alex nods.

"I'll just bring Addie to her room"

"I can bring her, you go ahead" I say

"Are you sure?" He asks as I nod.

Victoria held onto our bags as I take Addie from Alex as she slightly stirs before falling asleep once again.

While Alex heads to Edward's office, Victoria and I walk towards Addie's room.

"Has her fever gone down yet?" Victoria asks as we walk down the hallway.

"No, although we gave her medicine just before we left" I say as she nods and opens the door to Addie's room.

I gently place Addie on the bed while Victoria places our bags on a nearby chair. We talk for a few minutes before she was called to sign some documents.

Not long after, Alex enters the room and approaches us. However, before either one of us gets to speak, someone knocks on the door and opens it bringing in dinner sent by Victoria.

We spoke with each other as we ate until Addie woke up and ate dinner.

Shortly after dinner, she went back to sleep as we watched over her.

"Why don't you go to bed? I'll watch over her" Alex says looking at me.

"I'm fine. I was able to take a nap a while ago" I say looking at Addie.

"You and the baby need rest. I'll be there in a while, you go ahead" he says as I sigh before nodding.

I get up from my seat and kiss them both a goodnight before leaving the room and heading towards our bedroom.
