Just as I was about to leave the room. The door was opened and Victoria and Edward entered.
"Oh! Amelia! Has the ball not started yet?" Victoria asks
"It has. Unfrotunately it seems someone will be making the headlines tomorrow" I say glancing at Addie.
"What do you mean?" Edward asks and I explain what happened while they were in their meeting.
"I'll see if we could stop the press" Edward says as we nod before he leaves.
"Well, you better get going. No need to worry, I'll stay here with her" Victoria says as I thank her before going back to the ballroom.
.....A Few Hours Later.....
The ball finished a few minutes ago. Alex and I checked on Addie before we went to our room to retire for the night.
Camille arrived to take the tiara and return it to the royal vault. It didn't take long and soon we were left alone.
I sat in front of the vanity to remove my makeup and the other pieces of jewellery, while Alex was changing.
"I've been thinking..." he begins as I look at him through the mirror in front of me.
"Perhaps, we should hire a nanny for Adelaide" he says as I place the necklace down on the table and turn to him.
We agreed before Addie was born, that we won't be hiring anyone and we will be doing things ourselves.
"I know we have an agreement" he says walking towards me "but since then we have so much more responsibilities; Father's abdicating, Addie's growing up, and another child is on the way"
"You think we can't do it?" I ask
"No. I know we can, but it might be time to consider getting some help. Things will get even more busy in the upcoming months. I noticed how tired you've been lately, and it isn't healthy for you or the baby"
I think for a few seconds in silence while he patiently waits for my answer.
I sigh before speaking "I suppose you're right. I don't want this but I know we have to"
"Thank you" he says placing a kiss on my cheek "I'll go and inform David and Laura to allot time so we can interview them ourselves" he explains as I nods before he leaves the room.
.....The Next Day Later.....
I heard the sound of the door open as the sound of little footsteps ran inside our room, before I felt Addie get on the bed.
"Mommy, look! Grandma and I went to the garden and I picked the flower and she said to give it to you" Addie says as she holds the flower out in front of my face.
I took the flower in my hands and smiled "Thank you darling, it looks beautiful" I say before sitting up in bed as she moves closer to me, bumping Alex in the process.
"Why were you out in the garden? Are you feeling better now?" I ask as she nods and Alex turns to see Addie before sitting up and leaning against the headboard as well.
"No more fever?" Alex asks
"None. Grandma, said I am not sick anymore" she says with a smile.
Before either one of us could say anything, Victoria enters through the opened door.
"Adelaide, I told you not to wake them up first..." Victoria says as she spots her.
"Sorry, Grandma" she says getting of the bed and hugging Victoria as my alarm rings.
I turn off the alarm and quickly notice how late it is for us to still be in bed.
"It seems we overslept" I say as I quickly got up while looking at Alex as he turns to his bedside table to check the time.
"Well, you both missed breakfast. Might as well get ready for lunch now" Victoria says before turning to Addie.
"Grandpa wants to show you something, come" she says offering her hand to Addie as she quickly takes it with a smile before they leave the room and Victoria closes the door.
.....A Few Minutes Later.....
Alex and I enter to see Edward, Victoria and Adelaide having lunch while Addie explains something. We take our seats and begin to eat when Edward speaks.
"Ah! You both finally decided to show yourselves. We've been waiting for quite some time. We couldn't leave Addie alone here"
"We apologize, neither one of us woke up with the alarm. Where are you and Mother going? We all don't have anything scheduled for today" Alex says
"We're going into town. We are meeting an old friend of ours" Edward explains as we nod.
Tonight, we will be returning home as scheduled. Addie has classes tomorrow so we need to be back home early.
.....A Few Weeks Later.....
We finally hired a nanny for Adelaide. Her name is Eliza and she's been with us for about two weeks now.
She has been a big help to us and Addie likes her. There are times when Alex and I need to leave early for an engagement so she would bring Addie to school.
Sophia's wedding is very near and a few weeks ago she asked if Addie could be one of her flower girls to which Addie happily accepted.
So far, this pregnancy has took a turn for the better. I barely have any morning sickness now and there is a bump already visible. We haven't missed any check ups and the doctor says everything is going as it should be.
However, behind closed doors, Alex has been distant lately. We've barely spoken with one another these past few days. Something is bothering him yet I haven't had the opportunity to ask him about it.
He would get to bed late at night with the smell of alcohol on him. I know that isn't the great time to speak about it, and neither do I have the energy at around four in the morning.
Next week is already Sophia's wedding and Alex and I haven't planned when we will be going.
After a quiet dinner, I placed Addie to sleep before walking towards his home office.
I knock yet I didn't receive any response. I open the door and enter to see him looking out the window with a glass of whiskey on one hand.
