The Future Together

Chapter 10

.....The Next Day.....

I am seated in front of the mirror as my hair and make up are being finished for the event tonight. Unfortunately, Addie is still sick and she still needs to take her medicine.

Alex is currently with Addie while I get ready. Edward and Victoria will be staying with her as soon as they finish their meeting. While Alex and I will be at the ball.

Soon as I've finished and the tiara was placed securely on my head. I go to Addie's room to spot her and Alex talking on her bed.

We stay in her room and just talk to each other before Alex and I were called by Laura and David.

"Perhaps we could wait for a while for Victoria and Edward?" I ask

"Their Majesties are still in the meeting. We need both of you there already" David says as I look at Alex before turning to Laura.

"Laura, would it be alright if you watch over Addie first? Just until they arrive?"

"Of course, I don't mind" she says as I thank her before leaving a few instructions for Addie's medicine.

My mind was wondering off as we walked towards the ballroom when Alex intertwined our hands and gave me a reassuring smile.

Soon we stood just outside the ballroom to greet our guests which went on for quite some time before we got to enter.

Due to this being the last time we will be attending this event. The press were allowed access for tonight's event.

After some time has passed, Alex was called to the front to give his speech. I am standing near the entrance of the ballroom with a few people I was speaking to before Alex was called.

We all turned out attention towards the front of the ballroom just as Alex was about to begin, when I heard shouting.

"Daddy! Mommy!"

I turn around to face the entrance and notice the doors open as one of our guests enter, just in time for Addie to run inside as well.

"Mommy!" Addie shouts running towards me as everyone turns towards our direction and they quickly notice Addie beside me.

I noticed there were tears in her eyes as she wraps her arms around my gown as Laura arrives. I noticed people looked shocked and curios at Addie's sudden appearance.

"Excuse me for a moment, please continue" I say to our guests as I look at Alex and he slightly nods before he begins to speak.

"Let's talk outside" I whisper to Addie as she holds my hand and we walk out of the ballroom followed by Laura.

I bring her to the nearest sitting room and Laura closes the door as I lower myself to her level.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" I ask wiping her tears away.

"I don't want medicine" she says as more tears come out.

"Darling, you have to or you won't get well" I say as she shakes her head.

"If you don't drink your medicine, we will have to bring you to the doctor"

"No!" She cries "I don't want doctor!"

"Then you have to drink the medicine" I say yet she still refuses. I attempt to carry her when she tries to push me away.

"No!" She shouts as she continues to cry and tries to pull away "I don't want doctor!"

"Shh, we're just going to sit down here" I say as I attempt to carry her once more and this time she doesn't protest.

We stay in silence as I take a seat on the couch while Addie is on my lap and I stroke her hair as her cries turn to sniffles.

Suddenly the door opens and closes as I turn to see Alex enter but Addie doesn't seem to notice.

He spoke to Laura for a while before walking towards Addie and I. He took a seat beside me as Addie turned to see him sit down beside us before moving over to Alex as he held her.

The first time she drank her medicine she did not know the taste so it was easier to convince her to take it. However, now she already knows what it tastes like, making it very difficult to convince her.

"Do you want ice cream?" Alex asks her as she begins to smile with a nod.

"Let's go, let's get some ice cream" Alex says getting up.

"Alex" I call out as he turns to me and I look at him silently as he understood what I was trying to say. Medicine.

"I know, trust me" he mouths as I nod before he turns to Laura.

"Laura, could you get some ice cream for Addie?" Alex asks as she nods before leaving.

Alex gestures for us to go as I get up from the couch as we leave the sitting room and head towards Addie's room.

We enter her room and Alex places her on the bed while we wait for Laura. It didn't take long before she arrived with a bowl of ice cream.

Before Laura could walk towards us, Alex quickly stood up and took the bowl from her and went to the nearby table where Addie's medicine was placed, while I continued to talk to Addie and Laura excused herself.

After a few seconds, Alex sat beside Addie on the bed and gave her a spoon of ice cream. Her expression quickly turned to disgust, yet Alex got to persuade her to finish it.

It turns out, Alex covered up the medicine with some Ice cream before handing it over to Addie.

"See, that wasn't so bad" Alex says

"It's gross" she replies

"But now you get to eat all the ice cream left in the bowl" I said with a smile as I gestured to the bowl Alex was holding.

She shook her head before saying "There's medicine in it"

"There's none, darling. I promise" Alex says handing over the bowl.

She takes it and uses the spoon to inspect it for a while before nodding with a smile and eating it.

We watch her for a few minutes before I turn to Alex while Addie remains distracted by her bowl of ice cream.

"You should get back, we can't leave our guests. I'm sure they're looking for you. I'll return as soon as she falls asleep" I say as he nods before getting up.

He says goodnight to Addie and gives her a kiss before walking over to me and giving me a kiss before walking out of the room.

After she finished eating, I got her ready to bed and it didn't take long before she fell asleep.
