<Time skip 4 days to Thursday>

*Eddie's P.O.V.*

I woke up in my bed, alone but very excited; Buck was taking me on a date tonight. I quickly got dressed and went for my morning run. When I got back I took a shower and then got ready for the day. When Chris came into the kitchen I was leaning against the white marble countertop with a huge smile on my face.

"Morning dad," Chris said, "you look happy today."

"I am happy buddy," I replied, "Buck's taking me out on a date tonight. I don't really know what he has planned but I'm excited."

"That's really awesome dad," Chris responded, "I know you're gonna have fun no matter what. Buck is really good for you dad, even better than mom was."

"You keep saying stuff like that Chris," I questioned, "like I look at Buck a little sweeter than I looked at your mom. You said that when I look at Buck it's as if the rest of the world disappears. Now you're saying Buck is better for me than your mom was. What do you mean by all that?"

"Look dad I loved mom a lot," Chris stated, "and I know you did too but Buck makes you smile more than mom did. Buck makes you laugh more than mom did, he makes you more energetic than mom did. Dad, when you're with Buck you seem happier than you were with mom. I know that mom meant alot to you and that she'll always have a special place in your heart. Mom would want you to be happy dad, and I do too. I can tell you're lonely dad, you have been for a while, but whenever Buck comes around that goes away. The way you look at Buck, it's obvious how special he is to you."

Those words hit straight into my core, like a high-speed truck. Deep down I knew that Chris was right, Buck meant even more to me than Shannon did. I kinda always knew that I was gay but I was scared to accept that when I was a kid. I married Shannon because she seemed like a good fit for me and she was, just not the right fit for me. I looked into Christopher's blue eyes and I just smiled, he was a good kid and he knew that Buck was the right fit for me. Shannon was a fantastic woman and she gave me my son but I never quite felt complete with her. I always felt like there was something missing until I met Buck, that's when things changed. If I had the chance to go back in time and change stuff, I don't think I'd change anything.

"You're right Chris," I said, "Buck is super special to me. As much as your mom meant to me, Buck just completes me. I think Buck is the one for me Chris."

Christopher smiled and came around the island to give me a hug. He wrapped his arms tightly around my midsection and rested his head against my chest. I gave him a small pat on the head as I hugged him.

"Why don't we get some breakfast into you," I asked, "what are you in the mood for?"

"Could I have some cereal please," Chris replied, "maybe some Fruit Loops?"

"Yeah of course buddy," I stated, "I think I'll have some too. Fruit Loops sounds like a good breakfast."

Chris went back to the other side of the island and sat down. I grabbed two bowls from the cupboard and set them down. The box of Fruit Loops occupied its usual place in the pantry, I pulled it out and filled the two bowls. I added the milk and sat down next to Chris. The two of us sat quietly as we ate but we were both smiling. After breakfast the two of us sat and watched TV for a little bit.

*Buck's P.O.V*

It was a fairly standard morning as I walked into the firehouse, but there was an irremovable smile plastered on my face. Today was the big day, I was taking Eddie on a real date tonight, and all the reservations had been set.

"Well someone's in a good mood today," Hen stated as I walked in the door, "I'm guessing you're excited for tonight."

"You have no idea," I replied, "I'm absolutely ecstatic. I booked all the reservations on Monday and they're all set. Tonight is going to be great, I just hope Eddie will like it."
