"Baby, guess what I bought you?" I asked him, excitedly.
He didn't reply but continued looking at me. He probably had a bad day at work, but this would cheer him up. I brought the bouquet of sunflowers from behind me to the front of his face and screamed, "Surprise! I know you love them."
He continued staring at it like it was just any ordinary thing. "Babe, are you okay?" I asked him but got no reply.
He took the bouquet in his hand and then said, "Louis. I've been giving this a lot of thought and... I think it's better if we split. It was good while it lasted. I hope you can move on from me. Yeah."
I thought he was joking for a while. "But babe, we have planned dinner outside tonight, remember?"
"You can cancel it or take someone else. It's done. We're done." He said, looking into my eyes. I saw his eyes held no emotion.
A big pause. I couldn't believe this was happening. My chest was aching.
"I'll consider this your last gift for me." He said, pointing at the bouquet in his hand. I looked at him with teary eyes, this was just not happening.
He then said, "I'll send you all the things you've bought me by evening. I'll have someone deliver them, alright? I won't be left with any pieces of you." His voice and stance held no emotion, he was being as indifferent as he could.
I said, "Baby, what did I do wrong? Why is this happening? Everything was alright, wasn't it? Please, don't do this."
He pretended as though I hadn't spoken at all. He said, "So, I'll get going now. Goodbye, Louis."
As he turned to go, I held his hand, pulling him back. I placed a finger under his chin and made him look at me. I said, "Don't do this, H. Please, let's just sort it out. Please don't go."
He wriggled free out of my hold and said, "There's nothing to discuss. I don't ever wanna see you again." He turned to leave but I reached out for him, trying to grab him back and hold him as close as possible. So that he wouldn't leave, so that I wouldn't be lonely again.
He walked away as I broke down crying. I shouted, "Don't go, H, please." But I never saw him turn back.
"No!" He sat up on the bed, in the dark room. What the hell was his dream?
The lights flicked on around me and a voice spoke, "Babe, what's wrong?" Louis looked ahead trying to calm himself. A hand rubbed his back and said, "Oh, you're shivering. Wait, I'll go get you another blanket-" "I'm fine. I'm okay. It was just a dr-a nightmare. I'm fine." He said and lay back down.
It was just a bad dream. Just a nightmare. Nothing was wrong.
The lights went off and there was a quiet, "Good night, babe."
"Good night, El."

~Two weeks later~
Louis walked downstairs with his briefcase. He was running on time, like always, for work. He had never been late in his twenty-six years of life.
Eleanor was typing away something on her laptop, probably making a new design. Eleanor had her fashion brand, and it was one of the leading brands in the country.
Louis walked over to her, pecked her lips, and said, "Alright, see you in the evening, darling."
She got up from the couch and wrapped her arms around his neck and said, "I'll miss you too, bye. I love you."
