"Good morning, Em!" Harry greeted, hugging his therapist-cum-new friend. She hugged him back equally happily and tightly.
"Damn, Harry, you do bring in a bright start to the day. So cheery, always. Love that." She said and Harry grinned. And it began with Emma asking, "So, how has your week been, since our last meeting on Wednesday?"
Harry told her about everything that had happened. From getting a gift from Niall to trying the new makeup to recommending the brand to friends to sobbing over its CEO. He told Emma that the CEO of this brand was his ex. He had done exactly what he had wanted- starting a company that sold gender-neutral makeup- and a successful one at that.
"So, this CEO guy, your ex. You say he has accomplished all that he had ever wanted with this makeu0 company. He told you this 2 years ago?" Emma asked. Harry nodded. "Did it ever strike you that now that he has achieved one goal, he would want to achieve another?" Emma asked, her face holding a knowing smile.
"What are you talking about?" Harry asked, confused. "You once told me, Harry, that he said he was nothing without you. That he said he always needed you by his side, forever. Right?" Emma asked. "That's different, Em-" Harry began but Emma interrupted saying, "Yes, or no, Harry?"
"Yes," Harry said, defeatedly. "Which means, he'd want to win you back now. Which means, Harry, you're most probably his next goal." She concluded. "Listen, Emma. I was his ex-goal, more than 2 years ago. I hope you remember I told you that he's seeing someone else now. She's his goal now, a goal already achieved." Harry concluded.
"Okay, it's kinda weird that a person's career goal doesn't change over the years but a person's romantic goal does. Anyways, could you please just tell me his name?" She asked. Harry thought about it for a while but then declined by saying, "I don't want him falling in trouble because of this, because of me. I cannot tell you his name, I'm sorry. Really. Just, no. I cannot."
"I promise you, I won't let anyone know his name or anything about the two of you. I wouldn't even try contacting him, really." She said, but Harry refused. He couldn't always ruin Louis' life, especially when he was all alright and happy.
"I did think about the... The assignment you gave me, on Wednesday? I think I'm ready to tell you about what caused me to break up with him." Harry said, choosing his words correctly. He didn't already want to reveal everything.
"Okay, that's good, go on," Emma said. "I never ever wanted to do it myself, really. I could never do that, he was (is) my whole world. It wasn't in my hands, I guess, to decide whether or not I wanted to break all my ties with him. It was kinda forced, I think. But, I still do think I acted out of greed and if only I had thought about him before myself, I wouldn't have done it." Harry said, his eyes glossy by the time he finished.
"What do you mean by you acted out of greed? Could you tell me who forced you?" Emma asked. Harry shook his head, "I don't know... If I'm ready for that yet. I don't know if I can ever be brave enough to tell you why or who it was." Emma rubbed his shoulder, Harry was shaking quite visibly. "It's okay, Harry, calm down. It's okay, really. You don't have to let it all out in one go. Here, drink some water." She handed him a glass of water which he took gratefully.
After a minute or so, Harry had calmed down, and Emma asked, "Did you think about reconnecting with him? Maybe just as a friend?" Harry shook his head. "I didn't think about it, because I know I just can't. There is no way I can remain a friend, even if we do reconnect, because my feelings haven't died. I still love him, very much. He's still the one."
The tiny, cute, yellow bell on Emma's table rang. Harry wiped his snotty nose with his handkerchief as he got up off his chair. "Okay, time's up, apparently." Harry said and Emma nodded, "Yeah, it is. But I'll be seeing you again, next week."
