📍 Somewhere in medieval Britain
⏳July, 505 AD
Merlin and I giggled together as we jogged up to the front door of the small stone and wood home, shushing each other out of fear that the woman inside would hear us before we wanted her to. Sir Leon and Sir Gareth watched us while very clearly trying to mask amused smiles as they hung back with the horses.
My best friend and I exchanged a nod of silent agreement and he knocked on the door before linking his arm with mine. We shared an excited grin, both of us bouncing on our heels.
The floorboards inside creaked and we crouched under the window, knowing that the woman would probably peek out of it before opening the door to an unexpected visitor.
"Who is it?" her kind voice then called out. I could hear the confusion in it and shared a smirk with Merlin.
"Domino's Pizza delivery!" I replied in the best deep, male-sounding voice I could put on.
I heard a joyous chuckle on the other side of the door and it flew open to reveal a beaming Hunith.
"Surprise!" Merlin and I exclaimed at the same time; then I stepped back, allowing them to hug each other without hovering.
"Oh! How wonderful to see you!" the woman chirped as she held her son tightly. Then they separated and she moved on to me, giving me a warm hug. "How are you doing, sweet girl?" she asked softly.
"Pretty great, n' you?" I asked back while grinning at her.
"All the better now that you children are here!" she responded with a radiant smile, which turned into a frown when she looked at something past us. I followed her gaze, realising that she was staring at the knights.
"Those are our friends Gareth and Leon," I explained. "Utah n' Art wouldn't let us come without protection."
I snorted when the pair gave the woman some awkward waves.
"You mean they would not let you come," Merlin noted in a mumble.
"Right," I breathed out.
Hunith stepped forwards to address the knights in a sweet tone, "Well, Sir Gareth and Sir Leon, you are both welcome to stay here, if you so wish."
The men faltered and shared stunned looks before Leon collected himself and responded, "Thank you, but there is no need. We were given money for an Inn." Then he sent me a quizzical look, presumably asking for permission to leave – which I thought was hilarious and I chuckled.
"Yeah, go ahead," I responded, "I can take care of the horses."
"Thank you, my Lady," the curly blond responded and he dismounted his mare. Gareth followed suit and I grabbed their reins before whistling Dallas over to me. Falcon followed him and I led all four horses towards a paddock while Merlin and Hunith went inside their home and the knights went off in search of the Inn.
