📍 Camelot
⏳ April, 505 AD
Almost as soon as the sun rose the next morning, Merlin and I reunited in the physician's apartments and we headed out of the castle together and towards the lower town. We wasted no time as we started to ask around for the three women who had testified before Uther the day before, and we soon learned that their names are Beatrice, Anne, and Rowena.
Yes, I did grin inwardly at the thought of the witch from 'Supernatural'.
We found Anne first as she was hanging some clothes from a line outside her home and exchanged a nod before approaching her.
She seemed to freeze at the sound of our footsteps and she turned around slowly, looking alarmed.
"Hello, Anne," I greeted gently as I walked closer.
"My lady," she responded with a little curtsy that made me grimace.
I waved her off, "Please, none of that formality crap. We just need to ask you a few questions."
She nodded, appearing a bit shaky, but I decided to ignore that.
"Did you have any contact with the Witch-finder before you saw the goblin you spoke of?" I asked in a whisper. She promptly shook her head. "Okay..." I sighed, "Have you eaten, or maybe inhaled, or had any sort of contact with something that's a pinkish-purple colour? More specifically, a tincture made from a flower called Belladonna?"
Anne tilted her head for a moment as she frowned slightly. Then she turned to look towards a window into her house, and her eyes widened for a moment as she turned back to face me, "I purchased some eye-drops from the apothecary recently... They are magenta in colour."
I smiled widely. That has to be it! "Yes, that's great!" I cheered while sharing a grin with Merlin. "Thank you, Anne," I said and I handed the woman a couple of silver coins. "For your trouble."
I didn't wait for a response before my friend and I rushed off to try to find one of the other women (obviously, we gotta make sure that they also had contact with these eye-drops), and we were not disappointed as they both told similar stories. The Fake Magic Detective is so going down!
We sprinted towards the apothecary's store as soon as we were done talking to the women, and Jerome seemed positively startled as we entered in a decisive manner.
"Detectives Astra and Merlin, Camelot PD!" I announced with a small grin.
"M-my lady?" Jerome questioned. "A-am I in trouble?"
"You tell me," I responded, trying to deepen my voice as I leaned against the counter. I can save Gaius and have fun while doing it, can't I? "Have you been selling eye-drops with Belladonna in 'em?" I asked.
