Chapter 2: “Mr. Ootori?”
*Kanari*
I wiped my forehead and set down my cello bow. A little less than two hours had fallen away in my music room paradise, and I was ready to return to the normal world. I put my cello lovingly in its case and stood up, stretching my legs. I wasn’t really looking forward to finding “Mr. Ootori.” That probably involved seeing multiple people. Not really my thing. I looked between my violin and cello. “My violin could use some work…” I thought out loud. “Violin it is,” I said and picked it up, slinging it over a shoulder. I picked up my stack of books and binders and pressed them back in my bag. Walking out into the hallway, I stared at the room just two doors down. I had heard a lot of voices coming to and from the room while I was playing, so I was fairly certain most non-club members were gone. I started the walk, which suddenly seemed painfully long, to the imposing door. As I stood before it, I felt the familiar feeling of nervousness gather in my throat.
What would Father want…? I thought to myself.
I opened the door.
Four heads turned my way, and I found myself paralyzed. Calm down, I thought to myself, they’re just students.
“I’m sorry, Princess, but the Host Club has closed for today,” a blonde-haired boy said, glancing at me. He did a double take. “Wait a minute!” he exclaimed, “You’re the piano girl!” I belatedly recognized the boy from earlier.
“Yes, I’m sorry,” I said, knowing my voice could barely be heard. “I’m looking for a… Mr. Ootori?”
A black haired boy snapped his eyes up to meet mine. “Ah,” he said, and for a while it seemed that was all he was going to say. He looked at his clipboard for a second and said, “You must be Miss Densetsu.” I nodded, still not really able to speak. He flashed me a rather charming, if somewhat wicked, smile. “If you’d wait a moment?”
“Of course,” I said softly. He turned his head to another boy, the one that had opened my door before, and to the small blonde-haired kid with him. I walked over and set my violin case by the wall, leaning over as I did so. As I straightened up, I felt arms snake around my waist and neck.
“You know, I don’t think you’re wearing quite the appropriate uniform,” a voice said from beside me, as I stood stock still.
A nearly identical voice replied, “You know, Hikaru, I think you’re right...” A pair of lips brushed my ear. “Should we help you with that? I’m sure we can get you into a new one… presently.”
Suddenly I was lifted off the ground, and I let out a little gasp. Just a second later, I was back on the ground with a strong arm wrapped around my waist. I looked up, eyes wide, into the eyes of the tall guy from earlier. He removed his arm from my waist and said, “Don’t let them play with you.”
I looked around with a stupid look on my face, I’m sure. I found two read-heads looking at me with a curious expression of their faces. And simultaneously, identical evil and mischievous grins grew on their faces. I blinked. Those identical smiles were disconcerting.
“If we’re to be seeing each other regularly, I’m sure you’ll get used to Kaoru and Hikaru,” said the Ootori boy. “We can be on our way now.”
“Thanks,” I said softly, grabbing my messenger bag and my violin case as I exited.
“You play?” he asked, nodding his head at my violin, as we made our way to the deserted library.
“Yeah,” I said my voice a little stronger now that I was away from people. “I do, Mr…?”
“Oh, you can just call me Kyoya,” he said, flashing a smile my way and pushing up his glasses with his finger.
I looked up at the library building as we arrived. What is with the big doors here? I’m 5’ 2” and I could barely reach the door handle. Kyoya seemed disinclined to help me and even chuckled under his breath as I finally pushed the door open. I shot him a glance as I walked into the library. He huffed as he caught up and I smiled at him a little.
Down to business then, I guess. I sat down next to Mr. Oo- Kyoya. He sat down as well, and cleared his throat...
