Satoru

Every damn day my father pesters me about learning to take over the family company. And every damn day I wish I could tell him to shove it.

It's exhausting having to have the weight of your entire family's legacy on your shoulders. I hate it more than anything.

My mother draws me from my thoughts as I move to grab another duffel bag,

"Satoru, you don't have to leave. You're more than welcome to stay at home and go to college."

I give my sweet mother a look and she sighs heavily.

"I know. You said you want the full experience of living in the dorms," she says, coming up to me and embracing me in a hug.

Hugging her back, I feel a bit sad at the idea of not seeing her everyday.

My family was strange, but my mother was different. She wasn't born a Gojo, she just married one.

I kiss her forehead and then turn to continue packing the last of my things,

"It's going to be amazing. And I'm still going to be learning about business for my major. So dad can lay off."

My mother gives me a playful look,

"Your father just wants what's best for you."

"Right," I snort, zipping up the bag once my last pair of pants was in it,

"Dad doesn't give two shits about me. He wants me to take over the company because I'm an only child and it's supposed to stay in the family."

"Satoru-"

"I love you, mom," I cut her off with a smile and pull her into one more hug,

"I'll come visit soon."

She rolls her eyes at me,

"Sunday night, come for dinner."

"Maybe."

"Satoru-"

I swing my bags up onto my shoulders,

"I'm leaving now, goodbye."

Before she can protest I make my way out of my bedroom and down the long hallway.

The emptiness of the large house used to frighten me as a child, but since I've grown up I've become quite used to it. We had what some would call a mansion, I always felt it to represent more of a prison.

But now there was an odd comfort in the coldness that resides within the walls.

I put my shoes back on by the door and head to my car where the rest of my bags were already packed.

The dorm room was going to be a double, so I'm getting a roommate. I'm excited, I've never really made many friends before. My father kept me too busy with school and studying to have much time for playing.

I push my sunglasses up my nose once I get out from the shade of the house. My eyes are so sensitive to the sunlight, so it can be a huge hindrance to my driving if I don't have sunglasses on.

Getting into the drivers seat, I shove one duffel bag into the backseat and follow it with the second one. My phone starts to vibrate as I start up the car.

I pull it from my pocket and groan out-loud at the name on the screen.

"Fuck it," I hiss between my teeth before pressing answer,

"Hey, Sakura. What's up?"

The girl on the other end sounded pissed,

"What's up? That's all you have to say to me, Gojo?"
