January 15, 2003, 43 women around the world gave birth simultaneously, despite none of them showing any sign of pregnancy until labor began. Seven of the children were adopted by eccentric billionare Sir Reginald Hargreeves, and turned into a superhero team through what he called "The Umbrella Academy".
This is the story not about one of these seven - so to speak children - but about a 17 year old whom you may have heard about, whether that being at school on the play grounds, she is ordinarily, ordinary. This person is known as Janessa Valois.
On Janessa's 15th birthday, she wished for one thing. One thing that all her friends had. She longed for a family that loved her, a family that cared for her, a place she can feel safe, a place to call home...
Janessa, unlike her classmates, felt as though she didn't belong, she sensed she was a tiny piece in a huge puzzle that some people may call society. She never quite fit right. The only place that felt the most like home to her was her small room.
Oh, how she wanted to feel to warmth of the fire instead of the icy feeling that radiated off of the hard floor of the basement.
Oh, how she craved for the touch that didn't cause her delicate skin to bruise and pain.
She wanted to be special, she longed for that feeling of belonging.
She wanted to be the last piece of that priceless puzzle, to feel important to someone. She knew one day that, this was all going to change, she didn't really know how or when, only that it will happen soon.
