it all starts here

another rainy day, which means another slow day. i mumble in annoyance as i look out the salon window at the pouring rain. students rushing to class, hoods and umbrellas all over the place. none of them sparing a glance at the salon. i sigh as i make my way towards the counter to check my phone.

3:27. the salon closes in roughly two hours. i swipe through my apps as i debate closing early, when suddenly the bell above the door jingles. i lift my head up to see a tall dark haired man mumbling  something to himself, probably about the rain, as he shakes out his umbrella.

"hello, is there something i can help you with?" i ask the man as he makes his way up to my counter, eyeing down the whole place.

"uh, yeah. do you dye hair here?" he asks, not yet making eye contact.

"I sure do! what were you thinking?" i smile warmly.

"purple, like vibrant purple."

"i can do that, go head on over to that chair over there. i'll go grab my color options and meet you there." i point him to my chair, and he responds with a small nod and makes his way to sit. i happily walk to the back, knowing this will take a decent amount of time. I swipe all of my vibrant purples off the shelf along with the bleach, happy that i'd have something to do for the last two hours.

"okay, here are your options. the actual color is swatched on the lid," i sit the colors on the table in front of him. "i'm gonna mix up the bleach while you decide on that." He starts picking up the colors one by one, examining each of them, even holding a few up to his hair.

"do you think this one will look okay with my skin tone? i don't want to look washed out." he calls me over, holding out one of the purples. i make my way over to him and grab the dye from his hand. i take a moment going back and fourth from the bottle and his face.

"it's a good color, but i think a darker shade would suit you better, given your current dark hair." i reach over him and grab the darker shade. "like this one, especially if you don't want to be washed out." he nods and grabs the dye from me, examining it.

"let's do it then." he hands it back to me and i grab the bowl of bleach that i mixed earlier.

"are we thinking purple highlights, or full on purple?" i ask.

"go big or go home!" he exclaims. and with a nod i begin applying the bleach to his dark hair.

-

"okay, just a few aftercare tips, try to wash your hair in cooler water and not every day. unless you want to be back here for a touch up by next week." i laugh as he examines his new hair in the mirror. "oh, and that'll be $30." i inform him as i make my way up to the counter.

"only $30? shouldn't it be way more expensive?" he makes his way up to the counter, fondling with his wallet.

"i work on a college campus, i'm not gonna charge college students $200 for something i enjoy doing." i laugh. "they already pay enough money just to walk around here."

"that's kind of you." he smiles at me as he hands me a $100 bill.

"oh, i'm sorry, i don't have enough change in the register for that, do you have another form of payment?" i ask him with a concerned tone. he chuckles.

"no, you can keep the change. it's your tip."

"a $70 tip? i couldn't take that from you!" i exclaim.

"you did a great job, and on top of that you don't even charge full price. it's the least i could do." i smile at his kind gesture and give in.

"thank you." i smile.

"no, thank you..." he trails off seemingly looking for something else to say. i pick up on this and fill it in for him.

"minseo."

"ah, minseo. i'm jungkook." he points at himself sheepishly. "anyway, thanks again, but i've gotta get to class." he says as he rushed to the door and frantically opens his umbrella. "i'll see you around." he finishes as he makes his way into the pouring rain. i check my phone once again to see a text message from my boyfriend. before i get the chance to read it, he barges in the door breathing heavily.

"holy shit that storm, it was trying to steal our food." he breathes out as he smirks at me, pulling a bag of food from his rain-soaked jacket.

"jimin, wheres your umbrella?" i laugh at his dripping form.

"i was running late and left it in the restaurant. did you get my message?" he asks as he tries to pull off the soaking jacket. i look back down at my phone, it reads: baby, i'm on my way, i know i'm a little late but don't lock the doors just yet! xoxo

"i just finished up with a client and was about to read it but them you came barging in, soaking wet." i remark, still laughing.

"oh really? what was it?" he asks. he's always interested in my work, and always makes time to talk about it. i probably have the best boyfriend out there.

"an all over color! guy named jungkook wanted to go all purple." i exclaim. he knows all over colors are my favorite.

"that's awesome! did you get any pictures for you portfolio?" he asks as he begins to lay out our food.

"no, he was very quiet so i figured he wouldn't want to do anything like that."

"damn, I wanted to see how well you did!" he pats the chair next to him, asking me to sit.

"well i'm sure it'll be hard to miss a man walking around campus with purple hair." i laugh. "i'm sure you'll walk passed him eventually." he nods and starts shoveling food in his face. I follow soon after.
