Will knew when Nico had something on his mind.

His brows would furrow, he would bite his lower lip, and he would fidget with his silver skull ring. He used to recede into himself, but after three years of friendship, and one year of dating, he'd sometimes actually let Will ask him what was wrong.

They were hanging out in Nico's cabin, catching Nico up on some classic Disney movies, when Will plucked up the courage to ask his boyfriend what he was thinking.

"Alright, what's up?"

Nico started, tearing his eyes from the screen.

"Hmm?"

"You've had something on your mind since, like, yesterday, and I can tell it's bothering you," Will said. Nico went a little pink in the cheeks and dropped his gaze to his hands in his lap, still fiddling with his ring.

"I...yeah, I kind of do."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"I'm...not entirely sure?"

"Alrighty. Well, I'm here if and when you do," Will told him. Nico nodded, still looking at his hands. They turned their attention back to the movie again. They sat in comfortable silence for a little while. At some point, Will paused the movie to use the bathroom. When he came back, Nico had gone back to biting his lip and staring off into space. He sat back down and went to unpause the movie when Nico finally spoke up.

"It's just...something I overheard Annabeth telling Piper that I didn't really understand. I'm assuming it's a modern thing, I'm not sure."

"Oh," Will replied, "what did she say?"

"Something about Percy being good with his mouth? I don't know, I didn't really understand the context."

Will paused for a second and groaned. He understood the context. He'd forgotten how clueless his boyfriend still was to modern attitudes, even after being brought up to speed on most things.

"I'm guessing it's something uncomfortable?"

Will cleared his throat. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks and knew he was blushing.

"No, it's just...not something I ever figured I'd have to explain to you."

"What is it?"

"Well, um...So, you remember when I had to explain, like, puberty and sex and stuff to you? And how attitudes are different now from when you were a child?"

"Yes. There's no forgetting any of that any time soon."

"Right, well, this is sorta connected, kinda."

"Okay?"

Will began to explain how modern society had a more open attitude towards discussing sex, and how sometimes it was a bit toxic, but still better than not acknowledging it at all. Nico's face steadily reddened and Will could tell his was doing to same. This was not a conversation he'd predicted ever having with Nico.

When he'd finally finished explaining, he took a deep breath and found somewhere to look that wasn't Nico's face.

"Any questions?" he asked, his voice shaking a bit.

"Yeah, actually, um," Nico stuttered, "They're not married. Percy and Annabeth, I mean. Does that...not matter anymore?"

"Not really, no. Depends on the person."

"Oh. Okay."

They sat in silence for awhile. Eventually, Nico turned the movie back on, laughing at something stupid the side character said. The tense atmosphere slowly dissipated, until the two boys ended up where they always did: Nico tucked under Will's arm with his own draped across Will's stomach. Will was slowly falling asleep when, once again, Nico broke the silence.

"Will?"

"Hmm?"

"Does it matter to you?"

"Wha‒ Oh, that. Um, I don't think so," Will replied, "But what about you?"

"I don't really know," Nico started.

"That's okay‒"

"But then, I guess, I never really thought I'd be able to get married, you know," he continued, "It wasn't legal back then. If I hadn't been stuck in time, the expectation wouldn't have really meant anything."

"But now that you can get married...?" Will prompted the other boy. He wasn't going to lie, he would very much like to have sex with Nico, but only if and when he felt comfortable.

"I mean, I guess it would be nice to wait, but I'm also not fussed about it if you wanted to..." Nico looked up at Will, brown eyes searching Will's blue ones.

Will did want to. He really, really did. But he could tell the whole 'wait-til-marriage' thing still meant something to Nico. He already knew, deep down, that this, that Nico, was it for him. And if Nico wanted to wait, then he would, too. He reached up to stroke Nico's cheek as he pressed a kiss to his temple.

"Nah, I'll wait with you."

The smile that graced Nico's angelic face at his declaration made it all worth it. Even when he tried to stamp it down, it shone through. Will loved when he could make Nico grin like a fool.

"You better make it one hell of a proposal, Solace," Nico murmured against his chest.

"Oh, I will."
