Regrets

Maya had looked at the current situation she had found herself at. She was in New York while she was told to spend some time with her soon-to-be in-laws, but the absolute last thing that she had energy for was spending time with people she hadn't known. Maya had stepped out on the roof while she took a deep breath. Her weekend was definitely taking a rough turn that she wasn't prepared for nor did she think she would ever be ready for it.

"Maya," Josh said as Maya had exhaled and looked at the stars.

"Are you okay?" Josh asked.

"I can't do this, Josh. Being forced into a marriage is one thing but I can't make someone my maid of honor if I know nothing about her. And I don't think your niece takes it serious as well. She is texting all her friends and bragging towards her boyfriend about it. That is not what I want," Maya said as Josh had stood next to Maya.

"Tell her then. Maya, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. My parents are forcing this marriage, yes, but you can have this choice. It's yours," Josh said.

"And if it isn't?" Maya asked as Josh took Maya's hand.

"Trust me?" Josh asked as Maya immediately nodded.

Going inside the apartment Josh had seen as his family was busy talking while his parents were going through wedding arrangements.

"Mom, that plan of yours won't work out. Riley is not going to be Maya's maid of honor," Josh said.

"She's your niece," Amy said.

"And a complete stranger to Maya. You guys are forcing this marriage onto us. The one thing we are controlling is this. So give over the wedding arrangements. From now on, me and Maya are dealing with all of that," Josh said.
