Let me tell you briefly what's happening, and why you should be aware of what is going on in your community.
I won't start at the start.
I'll save you the headache, since if you're reading this, you're probably a victim too, looking for a place to start hunting for answers.
I'll get to the point briskly:
I came to realise my Wattpad novels, have been posted on another site called novelhd.com, without my knowledge, let alone my consent.
Apparently I'm slow to the mark too, as one has been up for over eleven months.
Upon looking into it, I became aware very quickly that there are a lot of other victims of having their work redistributed without their consent, and the vast majority of these complaints, are coming from Wattpad authors.
This is concerning in my eyes, since a lot of Wattpad's allure, stem from the fact that this is a platform empowering authors of all kinds, fiction and nonfiction, to start out their writing careers. It was the reason I too joined the community, as I believed in giving aspiring authors the power to start out, when the publishing world is big and scary to most.
Well...
If I had have known that this was such a large problem faced by self-publishing authors, especially on Wattpad, I may have thought twice 18 months ago, and I absolutely have thought about it twice, after months of considering publishing original paid works here.
It has been my personal opinion that I will no longer be posting works under this account, as the process to have infringements taken down seems to be neigh on impossible.
However, In this book, if you are weighing your options of whether or not to post on Wattpad (or another platform alike), I will post an unbiased list of things you may want to consider before starting out [of things I have learned along the way], and if you are a victim of intellectual property theft, I will also compile resources that I hope will be of use to you.
I hope this will be helpful, regardless of what has brought you here, and honestly, if this gets posted on novelhd, I will just laugh my ass off.
