Perhaps the biggest question posed to aspiring authors, is this:
Is self-publishing right for me?
This is a question I feel I have engraved into my forehead, however not without good cause.
There are just so many options out there when it comes to publishing nowadays, whether that be music, art, writing, photography, recipes... Anything.
So how are we supposed to know what is right for us?
If you're anything like me, the thought of approaching publishing houses comes with its own fleet of stress headaches. And on top of that, it might also feel like a goal that is unreachable, behind barriers such as self-perceived poor talent, shyness, time shortages, monetary costs, and that blaring, frustrating question...
Which publishing houses do I even want to approach, and how do I do it?
Just thinking about it gives me a headache.
Making the decision to go the mainstream route is like the tip of the iceberg, and perhaps, at your current point in life, it feels like more stress than it's worth, or maybe just not suitable at all.
So what options are we left with when we put aside the big blaring sore thumb for a hot second?
Well, I am not nearly qualified to give advice on, well, a lot of things, if I'm being honest. But I can share my own experiences in the self-publishing biz, and the benefits and shortcomings I have stumbled across along the way.
A pros and cons list, if you will.
Ta Da! Here's something I prepared (just now) earlier ✨
In no particular order, and no particular level of importance, I present to you, my own personal experiences from online, self-publishing for nearly two years here on Wattpad. I hope that perhaps this may shine a little light onto what it is really like to go down this path, and whether or not it suits your endeavours, as well as what you are looking to get yourself into.
