|018 : Slice of Life
The morning sun was shining bright over Fleurmont, birds were chirping outside the tall glass windows, and the distant, muffled chatter of the townsfolk echoed all the way up to the castle.
There lay Princess Azazel, entangled in her white silk sheets with feather pillows scattered around her bed. As the ornate wooden clock loudly chirped on her nightstand, the princess slowly and groggily rose from the silk sheets. Her movements were slow and heavy, a soft yawn escaping her lips as she stretched her arms overhead.
Her eyes drifted to the clock face. 6:15 AM.
Fifteen minutes later than her normal wake-up time, but oh well. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and stood up, her fingers grasping the edge of her duvet. She picked up her pillows and set them neatly back into their original places, smoothing the wrinkled sheets flat against the plush mattress before making her way to the bathroom to take a hot shower.
Once finished, she wrapped herself in a plush white bathrobe and walked over to her tall mahogany wardrobe. Pulling the brass handles to swing the doors open, she sifted through row after row of high-end dresses, searching for a suitable outfit to wear for the day.
Her fingers landed on a piece that immediately caught her eye. She held it up-the muted floral jacquard and tiny pink rosettes along the lace neckline felt far too lovely to keep hidden away in a closet.
She slipped into the cool satin, feeling the structured bodice cinch neatly at her waist. The soft, puffed sleeves settled over her shoulders, tapering down to gentle ruffled cuffs at her wrists. As the full skirt cascaded down to her ankles, catching the golden sunlight streaming into the room, she smoothed the shimmering fabric down and walked over to her vanity. She grabbed her hair dryer and brush, beginning the careful process of styling her dark hair into its usual soft, effortless waves.
Once satisfied with her reflection, she left her bedroom and glided down the hallway, heading toward the royal dining room for breakfast.
She pushed the heavy doors open, letting herself inside. Her family was already seated at the grand table, enjoying their first meal of the day. Azazel took her seat next to her sister, who was still in a half-sleepy state, lazily chewing on her scrambled eggs. They exchanged quiet morning pleasantries with their parents before continuing to feast on their carefully prepared breakfast.
Once everyone was finished, the Queen wiped her hands with a linen napkin and handed the two princesses a crisp scroll detailing their assigned tasks for the day.
After gathering their belongings, the two princesses waved goodbye to their parents and departed from the castle grounds down to the heart of the kingdom's town. The moment they reached the main square, they split up to handle their respective duties.
Rapunzel took the path to the right, while Azazel headed to the left.
She barely had time to take a few steps before she was immediately bombarded by townsfolk, all frantically seeking help from someone of royal status.
"Princess Azazel, should I release this new pastry flavor for the bazaar?!" a baker shouted, thrusting a tray of tarts towards her.
"Your Highness, an urgent situation has occurred at the docks!" a merchant called out.
"Someone is accusing me of stealing, Your Highness! Please tell them I'm innocent!" a man wailed nearby.
Azazel let out a silent, exhausted breath, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Good lord.
This is gonna take a while.
Azazel navigated the chaotic square with practiced grace, offering swift, decisive rulings to the baker, the dock master, and the overly dramatic merchant. But as she rounded the corner toward the Upper District, her path naturally crossed La Roseraie de Fleurmont.
