I slurped my coffee the second I woke up on my couch seat the next morning. I won't brush my teeth. No way.
"Good morning Rish."
"Good morning Shawn. Your breath stinks." He said, he was clearly having another hangover. The dude can't stand them, always gets angry and rather cruel when he's having them, kind of like a.... never mind.
"Do I have a date today?"
"No."
"Exactly! I don't have to."
"At this rate, you'll never have one."
"It'll take two to prove you wrong."
"To prove me wrong you'll need another person who can satisfy you emotionally and sexually for more than two weeks. That's the longest you've gotten and will ever get."
"We were dating for a few months. Not two weeks."
"You were dating for two weeks, until you went from a good fling to a boring one. After that she stopped being emotionally invested in you and went out with someone else and didn't even bother to tell you."
"Listen up scumbag." I said, angered. "I know that you know me more than your non-existing girlfriend, but exploiting me on my most sensitive region, that's where I draw the line. One more statement, and I'll snap you like stick."
"Sorry. At this rate you'll be sleeping with an imaginary girlfriend because the odds of you getting a real one are close to nil." He said, very smugly.
He fricked up so bad.
Sylvin dragged us to the studio.
"Donny, what do we about these two?" He said."Wait, lemme guess." He said, analyzing our bruised bodies. "Looks like Rish made fun of Shawn's dating status, and Shawn made the first punch."
"That's exactly what happened. These two were pummeling each other meanwhile I was in the corner, relishing every bit of it."
"Get to your places, we have some news to be later discussed."
"Yes Donny." We said.
We took our places. Ellis, Veronica and Raven were already there.
"Dating problems, huh?" Raven said.
"Don't even start." I said.
"We will, don't worry." Ellis said.
We took our places, Veronica tilted her head and looked at me, and then Rish.
Damn it. If Raven did that I wouldn't have strained another neuron. Veronica is too charming to be ignored.
We walked up to each other, stuck our hands out, shook them, hugged, and stood at a distance.
"Sorry man, shouldn't've made fun of your problems with love."
"Sorry for punching you in the face."
"Buddy truce?"
"Buddy truce it is!"
Buddy truce was something that we had since sixth grade. That's why even during our prom we patched up the next morning when he made out with my prom date and I slept with his. Revenge came with some good and consensual sex. Then he slept with Cathy Mckennon after that, but we patched up soon after that. I still got the upper hand but I have one make out owed. I'm probably not going to use it though but the power is like the perfect dopamine.
The rehearsals went terrible. I forgot most of my lyrics because of Rish's remark of my odds in attaining a real relationship being nil really got to my head and my heart. Silvin smacked me in the head for that but I didn't care, I was too sad to pay more attention to that. We all went to the Cafe again, all tired except me. I was just sad, sad, sad, sad. I ordered a regular coffee with a splash of hazelnut milk with another splash of caramel sauce with a drizzle of hazelnut (I LOVE HAZELNUT OKAY!?). My order came ten minutes later.
"Oh no!" Sylvin said.
"What happened?" Ellis asked.
"OH NO!" Everyone else screamed.
"What happened?!"
Rish came up to. "Sorry buddy, I know I said hurtful things, but don't take it that seriously. I'm really, really sorry."
"Can somebody tell me what is happening?!"
"Okay Ellis. You're new here, that's why you don't know this. All of us have analyzed his mood based on his coffee. If he's happy, he orders a hazelnut decaf. If he's tired, he orders a regular decaf. If he's bored, he has a regular coffee. If he's sad, he orders honey tea." Veronica said.
"But this isn't honey tea."
"Wait for it sweetie." Raven said. "If he's sad about his sensitive region, he orders this."
"Oh."
"We've had two such episodes. We don't want another one."
Ellis came closer for a hug. "Oh, I'm sorry honey you'll find someone. No matter what happens, I'll be here for you to hold your hand."
"Thanks Ellis." I said, still dull.
"All right! Gang!" Donny came in at the worst time.
Donny why?!
We gathered around him, he had his assistant Linnie hold a file for him.
"So, we have been called for a small gig next week."
"But we have to leave for our Toronto tour next week."
"Look here." He said, grabbing the file. "Now, our flight is on the 21st and our temp gig is on the 19th."
"Okay, okay. What are the details?"
"So, only Sunshine is being called for this. We have to perform for an entire day on a rather extravagant birthday. Our client is Lydia Markson, she was very insistent on hiring us and we will be paid after the performance. So, she said that her friend's favorite band was you guys and would appreciate it if you interacted with the guests and the lucky girl. Refreshments and beverages will be provided."
Lydia Markson? That sounds familiar, and not in a good way.
"Sir, can we at least know the name of the birthday girl?"
"First of all, she's just as old as you all. Second, this matter is none of your business."
I do not have a good feeling about Lydia Markson.
We went home promptly, rest wasn't anything special.
Author's note: The next part takes place a week later so you might have to wait a week to understand it (Bazinga!).
