Bill Weasley x Reader
[Theme: Young Adults]
To say Bill Weasley and I had a complicated history would be close to the truth and yet still so far in reality. We were Hogwarts sweethearts since our fifth year and anybody who knew of our relationship was certain that we'd get married. I think we both believed that too. When we graduated, Bill became a Curse-Breaker at Gringotts and I took a job at Flourish and Blotts while I awaited a suitable job opportunity for me to take.
For the while, it was perfect. Though it was sometimes difficult with him being gone for long periods when he was on duty, he would always come back with such thrilling tales to tell. It was how energetic he spoke that reminded me of how much I loved him. Well, as energetic as the serious yet easy-going Bill could be.
How did it lead to this ending? Bill and I agreed to not get engaged until he had settled down in his Curse-Breaker duties somewhat; it turns out it was Gringott's decision of what "settling down" meant. He was already going between countries frequently but this was too much...
When I received the news that Bill was to be stationed permanently in Egypt... I realised I was tired of waiting. Our relationship wasn't moving anywhere. With this, I would be lucky if I saw him even a couple of times a year when he returned home to his family. Despite how much it wrenched our hearts, we made the mutual decision to end it.
Bill left for Egypt and that was that. Even though we were no longer seeing each other, Mrs Weasley made it her mission to reassure me that I was always welcome around the Burrow. After all, with few other women in the male-dominated household, she and Ginny were likely begging for the company. It was as if I were extended family.
I didn't have too much of a family of my own so I did prefer to spend it at the Burrow during the holidays. The small Ginny would always run and hug me, relieved that she was now free of her older brothers. Ron was mostly indifferent and Percy seemed a bit bothered but ultimately understood I wouldn't irritate him too much. As for Fred and George, they loved getting me to try out their new creations but Mrs Weasley didn't often approve. Charlie and I had a shared love for dragons! It was almost the only thing he would talk about. And then...
...there was Bill. Every time I saw him, I wanted to reach out and grab him. I wanted to have him hold me as he used to. To feel his warmth and his love... He wanted the same thing and yet... it was unobtainable. There were times when we were all laughing and it felt as if there was no fracture between us. When the laughter died down, we'd be aware of it again. It was like reopening wounds.
Somehow, almost two years passed since we separated. We both had moved on in a sense but there was always that longing of returning. All it took was an opportunity and an opportunity was what Mrs Weasley offered me at the Burrow.
As she prepared lunch on the stove with magic, she sat down with me at the kitchen table. Mrs Weasley had invited me around and wouldn't take no for an answer because she was too invested in my welfare.
"You look like you're about to burst from something, Mrs Weasley." I remarked as she had the brightest smile on her face.
"Did you read the paper today? Take a look, dear." She gently pushed a copy of the newspaper in front of me for me to read. In big bold text, it announced the winner of this year's Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw was...
"Arthur Weasley!? That's seven hundred Galleons!" I proclaimed in astonishment. Mrs Weasley chuckled at my disbelief.
"I could hardly believe it myself when Arthur came and told me but it's true!"
"Are you going to spend any of it?" I asked with enthusiasm. Her face turned to that with a vixen grin.
"We're going to Egypt to visit Bill." she told.
