Chapter Sixteen: Call Home

~Sadie's POV~

It seemed as if Toby slept for hours. I started getting nervous actually. I paced in his living room, held and played with Gryphon, even ate twice even though I wasn't hungry.

I heard a moan from his bedroom. I quietly ran just in case if he was still asleep. I opened his bedroom door.

"Toby?"

The hall light shown in the room and hit his face in a beautiful angle. It might have been three in the morning, but I could see everything. The way his eyelids were when he was tired. His smile that he smiled once or twice in his sleep.

It was awkward dressing him because I had to take off his shirt and pants. Felt kinda awkward on my part. Gryphon started barking and Toby stirred.

"Gryphon!" I lightly yelled, closing his door. Who would be knocking at this hour?

I walked down the hall, into the living room, and in front of the door. I peeked through the door. Standing there, was a sodden Jack. And he looked drunker than hell.

"Jack?" I opened the door partially and I looked at him. He had bags under his red eyes, messy hair and wrinkled clothes.

"I came to say I'm sorry."

"No need."

"May I speak to heim?" He started speaking funny now and I invited him in.

"He's asleep but you look exhausted. Sit." I pointed to the sofa and waited for him to sit before I sat. He still stood even after I walked over there and sat on the couch on the far side.

"I need to speak to you or someone."

"Jack, you can talk to me."

He smiled at me, and I couldn't help but smile back.

"I'm sorry about earlier. And about.. About Toby. I didn't mean to hurt him, but the way he hit me, he knew I was drunk and I was trying to defend myself. "

"I still have feelings for you, but I know you like Toby so I'll stay in the friendzone, no matter how much it hurts me. I want to respect you, and Toby of course."

"Oh Jack I..." He wouldn't let me finish. He kissed my cheek and put his hand on top of mine, not holding it, but it was a genuine gesture.

"Don't say anything. I can't be here long in case if Toby awakens. Just wanted you to know I'm always here to talk to if you need someone."

"Okay."

"Bye Sadie." He walked toward the front door, and I thought, smiling lightly, Jack, why must you be so charming?

"Bye Jack. I'll see you later." He turned and waved, closing the front door behind him. I jogged over and locked it, praying Toby didn't hear Jack, considering how he feels about him right now.

I awoke under a warm blanket on the couch, Gryphon asleep on my stomach. The sun was shining brightly despite of the closed curtains in the living room.

"Mmm..." I sat up, and Gryphon looked up at me, mad.

"Sorry buddy." I rubbed the top of his head and he barked. I looked around, shushing him.

"Morning Sunshine." Toby came in, tobuscus shirt and all.

"Hey." I smiled sleepily and he laughed lightly

"Don't you look gorgeous in the morning." He sat at the end of the couch and looked at me, sleep rings underneath his bright eyes. Gryphon started barking at him and curled up on my legs.
