Kai's POV.

I cleaned off my eye and walked around a bit. I was looking for a shiny surface. It was pretty hard walking around while looking with only one eye but I picked up on that quickly. Soon enough I found a metal plate that wasn't that rusty. I cleaned it against my pants and brought it to my face level.

I turned the metal plate in an angle so I could see the left side of my face properly. The view was quite disturbing so I lowered the metal piece and allowed it to drop to my feet.

My left side of the face was full of cuts but the worst one was all across from the middle of my eyebrows and it stretched down to my cheekbone. It was a deep cut so even after I cleaned my face it still bled. I sighed and went back to get my stuff.

I picked up my backpack and flung it over my left shoulder and my sniper just loosely hung in my arms. I heard some shouting and yelling so I decided to see what the fuss was about.

Since I had wandered off the main hangar I had to take a shortcut between the greenhouses. I silently walked trough the long grass and my hat was pulled low again. My gaze now pointed at my boots.

I got lost in my thoughts when I heard two male voices speak up. I didn't dare to look up or be careful so I just kept on walking. When I was about to reach them one of the males heard me walk and both of them jumped at the sound of grass scraping against my boots.

"Kai? Is that you?" I heard one of the males speak. It was Murphy. I slowly lifted my gaze from my boots to look at him. Once my head was high enough I lifted my hat and looked him square in the eyes. Once he saw my left eye he immediately showered me with questions.

"Who did this?"

"What happened?"

"Can you still see?"

"Is your other eye okay?"

I shushed him and he stopped talking.

"First of all. Yes I can still see out of my right eye. Second of all I'm half blind now. Third of all that mother fucker Hector punched me with some kind of sharp tool." I said to him. My voice cracked at the last few words. He knew I hated my eye color and the scars. But what he didn't know is that I liked how they made me stand out.

"Kiddo that's a nice gash you got there." The man who stood behind Murphy spoke. Murphy stepped away from the man to let me fully see who it was and I was shocked. It was that one doctor who was in the lab.

"Yeah no shit!" I said trough gritted teeth. The doctor just chuckled and I was about to attack him when Murphy stopped me. I gave him a death glare out of my healthy eye and he retreated back.

I simply nodded and stood there glaring at the two males as they went back to planning.

"You know those guys?" Murphy asked the doctor. I picked up that his name is Kurian. He simply nodded his head but before he could answer the question I spoke up.

"Zeros" I answered instead of Kurian. Both males looked at me.

"They are the reason why I use my insane card." I explained to Murphy. He simply nodded but Kurian seemed more confused.

"Well they financed my work after the government collapsed. That's how I knew how to find you at Fort Collins." The doctor answered. 

"They were responsible for that mad house?" Murphy looked at Kurian who nodded and answered with a simple 'yes'.

"They're after all three of us now. they would've been after you two but I showed them that I'm here and they'll want me too." I butted in their conversation. Murphy looked at me apologetically and I just sighed.

"The kid's right." Kurian said.

"What are they doing here?" Murphy asked once again. I swear him and his endless questions will be the death of me.

"They distribute all the Z weed. Odegard works for them." Kurian spoke as I leaned against the greenhouse and pulled up my sniper to practice shooting with only one eye. I mean I was looking trough the scope with my right eye anyways I just had to get used to the fact that my left eye is gone.

"We got to get out of here. C'mon let's go. You too Kai." Murphy spoke. I lowered my gun and went after both males.

We were now peeping over the corner of the greenhouse. Hector held Odegard in his grasp and forced him to inhale something in front of everyone.

"Say when!" Hector screamed in his thick Spanish accent and Odegard squirmed before yelling 'when'.

Hector then released the man and let him inhale some air. I got tired of that shit and got out of my hiding spot. I went straight to the team. All of the people's attention went to me for a second but I ignored them as I stood next to them but still far enough.

"Oh! HA! Wow!" Odegard spoke up as he shook his head in delight. I furrowed my brows slightly in confusion.

"I feel good." He spoke up once he had sobered up and looked around to the crowd. His gaze stopped on me. His eyes held sorrow but he was interrupted by Hector once again.

"Good. Bring on the zombie." He spoke to his team of people dressed all in black and with scull masks over their faces.

"A bite from this zombie and we'll know for sure." He stepped away from Odegard as he allowed his team to get the zombie close up. The Z bit him but the scientist just fell to the ground. Silence fell upon the crowd and we all watched him closely.

I shook my head in disappointment and turned to look at the team. I noticed that Addy and 10k were already looking at me. Addy motioned with her hand for me to walk over to them. I complied since I knew that later I will be showered by more questions if I don't go over.

I walked up to them and 10k pulled me into a hug. This time I didn't push away and he hid his head in the crook of my neck. I hesitantly placed my hands around him and allowed both of us stand there. Addy didn't waste a single question and started asking questions.

"Are you okay?" She asked me in a whisper. I just nodded my head and I felt 10k relax slightly. It made me slightly more happy.

"How's your eye?" She asked as she crossed her arms over her chest and converted her weight on one foot.

"Still stings a bit but I'll be fine." I replied simply. She nodded her head in approval and smiled. I curled the corners of my lips upwards a bit. That made Addy smile even wider and she came in for a hug too. I was now pressed in a hug sandwich.

The Zeros luckily had packed up and left. That made my gut feeling go away and I relaxed.

"Kid let me clean that eye of your properly." I heard Doc's voice somewhere behind me. I wiggled out of the hug and looked at the old hipster. He nodded his head towards the hangars and we all went inside.

I allowed Doc to push me down to sit and he said he'll be over to me to help in a moment. After he left dad tackled me into a bear hug.

"Amore I'm so sorry." He said in his accent which made a lump form in my throat. I swallowed it and hugged him back.

"It's okay pa. It's not your fault." I said and he gently rocked me from side to side just like he used to.

"I'll kill that man." He said as Doc practically dragged dad away from me so he could inspect my eye. I allowed him to clean it and then have a better look at my eye. He gently grabbed my chin and tilted it to the right side so he could see better.

"Get some glassed Doc." Addy jokingly said as she noticed the gesture. Doc just chuckled and finished inspecting.

"Well that pretty eye of yours is gone for sure." Doc said in a sad tone. I sighed and nodded to him. He smiled a weak smile and I returned the gesture. I felt someone's arms wrap around my shoulders from the back and I instantly knew it was 10k.

"I'm so sorry Kai. You didn't deserve that." He softly spoke. I rested my head on his hand that rested on my right shoulder and hummed in response.

"It's fine. I'll just have to get used to it." I said softly was I closed my eyes. I was exhausted so I quickly fell asleep in a deep, dreamless slumber.
