Five seconds went by, then ten, then fifteen, then thirty. Moon wasn't transforming back, though. There wasn't even any hint of the process starting.
"Peter...?" you called.
"Did something- oh fuck..." he trailed off, staring at moon. He grabbed the radio from his belt, pressing a button on it and holding it to his mouth. "Amanda, let a manager know the daycare won't be open for a while."
You could see Moon starting to freak out and you gave him a small hug.
"We can fix this. I'm sure we can. You'll be fine," you said.
"I-I... I shouldn't be in control right now. Why isn't Sun in control? Why can't he take control?" he said, his voice full of panic.
"It's okay! Something probably just got damaged or something! We'll get it fixed!" you said.
"Let's go down to the maintenance. Management's not gonna be happy if we have to close the daycare for the rest of the day," Peter said.
The two of you lead the distressed Moon out of the daycare and to the elevators. You were gently rubbing Moon's back as the poor animatronic shook. His hands were gripping his upper arms.
"We can take him through Rockstar Row. The main gang is performing so there shouldn't be anyone there," Peter said.
You nodded. After a minute in the elevators and a few turns down a still unfamiliar Pizzaplex, the three of you made it to Rockstar Row without incident. Just like Peter said, no one was there. You were a little thankful for that. You didn't know how Moon would take to a punch of kids and parents worrying over him.
"We're gonna go through Freddy's room. He's the most forgiving about people using his maintenance entrance," Peter said.
"Are the others protective of their rooms?" you asked.
"Bonnie isn't, but he's also a bit quieter than the others and I think he gets upset about it, even if he doesn't show it. Chica's room is just a mess and Roxy and Monty tend to throw fits when someone goes through their room without asking," he explained.
"Freddy just cares about everyone, huh?" you said.
"Yup. He has been and he will be throughout every establishment," he said.
Peter led the two of you through Freddy's room and then down a corridor with a charging station and some boxes. At the end was another door, which Peter held up his security card to and unlocked it.
"Welcome to the maintenance hall. I was hoping to let you get settled in before coming here but better to learn now then never, I guess," Peter said. He led the two of you down a set of stairs and to a round chamber. "So, normally you can do this by yourself and it's really simple, but having a second person really helps. One person has to be in the chamber to do the repairs, but it can be operated from both the inside and the outside."
As Peter explained everything to you, the two of you helped get Moon up onto the table. Peter began pressing a few buttons on a little computer as the doors to the chamber closed.
"Alright, first we gotta run a scan to see what the hell is up. Even if you think you know where the damage is, you still wanna run that scan," he said.
You nodded. A minute later, there was a beep from the computer and Peter typed a few more things on it.
"Looks like the fall just disconnected a few wires that link to the... eh... it links to the transformation thingy," he said, causing you to laugh.
"Do you seriously not know what it's called?" you asked.
"Hey, I signed up to be a daycare worker, not a repair guy. Excuse me if my terminology is off," he huffed.
"It's honestly fine. I, again, don't know much outside of what I learned in high school, so I'm not going to be good with terms either," you said.
"Good. Now, since it's just a simple wire fix, it shouldn't take too long. I hope. Moon, I'm gonna need you to lay on your stomach for me," he said.
You watched as moon rolled over onto his stomach. Peter then went and removed the plate on his back.
"So, this whole thing is a little new. This chamber was designed to do all the repairs with little human interaction, but it's buggy. You'll learn how to use it later, but for now I'm going to teach you how to do this the way I was taught," he said. He motioned for you to come closer. "So, each panel hides electronics for different functions. The one on the back is for the daycare attendant's ability to switch between day and night."
Peter went on to explain what you would have to do and even had you try and reconnect a few of the wires. Before long, they were all connected again.
"Alright, last but not least, reattach the panel and he should transform back into Sun! If the lighting is right," he said, looking around the room.
Peter reattached the back panel on the daycare attendant's body and, after a few seconds of nervous silence, you watched as Moon's clothes changed from the night sky theme to the bright and cheery colors of Sun's clothing. Sun yawned and stretched, sitting up.
"Good morning, everyone! Hey, when did we get to parts and services?" he asked, looking around.
"Long story short, your brother fell and almost killed himself and (y/n)," Peter said.
"Moon did what?! Oh, when I see him, he's going to get a real scolding," Sun huffed, causing you to laugh. "Is our new friend okay? You aren't hurt, are you?" he asked, hopping off the operating table he had been on and picking you up.
"I'm fine, no need to worry. I'm danger prone, but somehow indestructible," you said, laughing.
"Oh, that's wonderful! I'm so glad you're okay!" he said, hugging you.
"Alright, let's get back to the daycare so we can finish cleanup and open. We don't want to keep the kids waiting," Peter said.
"Yes, sir!" Sun said.
