Cinder: "Now you understand. I've got to get the relic before it can be secured in Atlas. It's the only way that Salem..." she paused with a frown, before continuing, "It's the only way we can accomplish our goal" Her companion turned away from the giant doors of the vault. Neopolitan faced Cinder with a questioning look on her face. A matter of chance had brought the two together in Mistral. While Cinder contracted Li'l Miss Malachite to find the whereabouts of Kai and his friends, she was handed over to Neo instead, who had contracted the same woman to find Cinder in an attempt to get vengeance for her fallen boss, Roman Torchwick.

Cinder: "You want Ruby dead, and I want Kai dead. But unfortunately Salem does not feel the same way" Neo raised a brow, slowly walking over to Cinder, who was seated on a large rock in the middle of the cave.

Cinder: "I've been...instructed not to kill them, but you..." she smirked, "You have no such order. You can do as you please" Cinder got to her feet, and approached Neo, "Help me get to Atlas. Help me find them, and the rest, is up to you" Neo looked away, considering, before her lips curled up in a grin, and she extended her hand to Cinder, who took it and shook it firmly, with an equally wicked grin of her own. Here an alliance was born, one that might quite possibly be the undoing of Kai and his friends.

Everyone looked on in shock as Maria Calavera told her story to them, save for Yang, who was focusing on riding Bumblebee through the snowy road. Maria talked of how she was once a famous huntress known as the Grimm Reaper, her silver eyes and how she lost them at the hands of a mercenary leader.

Maria: "She said I was a fighter to the end. But I wasn't. I went into hiding soon after"

Qrow: "I don't believe it...You..."

Kai: "...You're the Grimm Reaper. You were a legend among huntsmen..."

Qrow: "...and then you disappeared."

Oscar: "How exactly does a legend just disappear?"

Qrow: "Never used your name, never showed your face. Lots of us thought you were just laying low. Eventually we came to accept that you were probably dead...but the stories about you..." He shook his head, "I based my weapon off of yours. I wanted to be as good as the Grimm Reaper" Maria scoffed, "Well I'm nothing but a disappointment, so you're well on your way"

Blake: "How can you say that?"

Maria: "Child, a huntress is supposed to protect others to the bitter end, but after I lost my eyes, I only ever looked after myself. Even after my surgery I was too afraid to fight. Afraid someone would find me again, finish what the others started. You shouldn't aspire to be like me, especially when some of you are clearly stronger already." She sighed, "It's comforting that your generation seems up to the task of inheriting this world. I'm just sorry I didn't do more to leave it in better shape"

Ruby: "Well, maybe you can do something now. Teach me to use my power the way you did". Before Maria could answer, Ruby's scroll began to ring. Her face lit up as she looked at the screen, "It's Jaune!" Yang stopped the bike abruptly in surprise as everyone looked at Ruby in confusion.

Kai: "Huh?"

Oscar: "What?"

Weiss: "How?" Ruby put the device to her ear, "Uh, hello?" Jaune's voice came clearly over the speaker, "Ruby! Oh thank you! I've been checking my scroll for your signal to see if you made it to the city!"

Kai: "The city? Hey we must be close!" Ruby pointed her scroll to a hill straight ahead, and the signal bar went up considerably. Quickly, Yang rode them all forward, and they went up the hill at a steady pace. Bumblebee stopped at the top of the hill, and the group looked down at the view with a smile of joy and relief. The city of Argus lay quietly in the distance below.
