Chapter 12: The Plan in Motion...Or Something Like That

Weiss' voice came clearly over the comms, "We're on-board". Ruby responded, "Alright, we'll all watch our scrolls..." she nodded to the rest of the group; Jaune, Ren, Nora, Oscar and Kai; as they stood on the side of a forest-side cliff, overlooking the clear blue waters, with Qrow leaning on a tree a few meters away. The plan was already in motion. Weiss had infiltrated the Atlas base under the pretext of returning home to her family. Maria was smuggled into Weiss' suitcase, so between the two of them, they would be able to hijack and take over the airship that they were put on.

Ruby: "...The second Weiss is out of range of the comm tower, that'll mean she's out of range of the radar too" This time, Yang's voice sounded through the earpiece, "And that's where Blake comes in. We're almost at the drop-off" Kai could hear the humming of Bumblebee's engine through his earpiece as it sped through the route. Yang's job was to drop off Blake at the Communications Tower, leaving Blake to disconnect the base's radar system. That way, Weiss and Maria would be able to fly back into Argus airspace undetected, and retreive the rest of the team before setting off to Atlas. Kai put a hand to his ear to speak through the comms, "Does Blake really have to go in there alone?"

Blake: "We've been over this. More intruders means we're more likely to be seen. Besides, stealth isn't really Yang's...um..." Kai could only imagine that Yang was scowling at Blake right now, as the faunus girl struggled to complete her sentence, "...uh....I mean...she's great, and I'll hurry back" Yang's sigh was audible through the earpiece, and Kai let out a small laugh, "Fine, just...be careful"

Blake: "I will. Heading in on foot now, won't be long" Jaune pumped his fists enthusiastically, "Yes, it's all going to plan!" As he noticed the others looking at him, he cleared his throat and stood up straight, "I mean um, roger". Kai turned to Ruby, to find her staring sadly at Qrow. Unlike Jaune's obvious enthusiasm, Qrow was just the opposite. He leaned against the tree, hands tightly in his pockets, with a restless scowl on his face. Kai placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "He'll be fine. He's just anxious"

Ruby: "Yeah...I guess" she turned to him, "What about you? Are you okay? You sounded a bit worried back there" Kai turned to stare off in the direction of the comm tower, "Yeah...just got a bit of a foreboding feeling, is all. Probably nothing" Ruby nodded, "This plan will work, it has to" Kai nodded back at her, and they both turned their attention to their scrolls, waiting for Weiss to go out of range. Eventually, the last bar went out on Weiss' signal, and Ruby put a hand to her ear to speak into her earpiece, "Alright Blake, you're up"

No answer.

Ruby: "Blake?" Still nothing. Ruby turned to face the others with a bewildered look on her face.

Kai: "Yang, what's going on?"

Yang: "I...don't know..." Just then, Weiss' voice came through, "Ruby, we're in trouble. Cordo's on to us, and Maria ISN"T HELPING!" The sound of Maria's cackling could be heard through the comms and Kai groaned silently. She must have gotten into it with Cordovin again.

Weiss: "Why is the radar still up?"

Ruby: "We don't know. Blake isn't responding"

Oscar: "What do we do?"

Yang: "Keep the ship in one piece" The roar of Bumblebee's engine sounded through the comms again, as Yang zoomed off towards the tower.

Nora: "Maybe we should fly over to help Yang and Blake first?"

Qrow: "Dammit!" JNPR, Ruby and Oscar turned to face Qrow as he ranted, "Cordo's gonna scramble her fighters. We've got maybe 90 seconds before they're in the air and all over Weiss and Maria" He closed his eyes and sighed, "This is all my fault"

Jaune: "What are you talking about? Your semblance?"

Qrow stopped leaning against the tree and turned to face the children fully, "Every choice I've ever made has led me here and dragged you along with me. Oz, myself, the others, we're responsible for the mess the world's in now. I shouldn't have come. I shouldn't have let any of you come. What was I thinking?!"
