Chapter 13: Closure

Kai: "It's okay, Yang. I got you" Yang smiled as Kai turned to face her fully, "Kai..." The boy looked around with a raised brow, "Where's Blake by the way?"

Yang: "Blake is...hanging in there..." Kai followed her gaze to spot Blake slowly crawling her way up the larger cliff, completely unnoticed by Adam, and he nodded subtly in understanding. As he turned to face Yang again, he saw that she was now staring down at her hands. They were shaking uncontrollably. He took her mechanical right hand in his and squeezed it tightly.

Kai: "Hey..." Setting his blade into the ground beside him, he used his other hand to slowly lift her chin, so that he was staring directly into her purple eyes, "...take a breather for a while. Let me handle this" Yang gave him a small smile, and nodded in response. Satisfied, Kai then picked up his blade again, turning his attention back to Adam, who was looking less than pleased.

Adam: "You weren't supposed to be here"

Kai: "Neither were you, Adam. But..." He pointed his large blade directly at his opponent, "...that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. You see, I actually have a bone to pick with you" Adam raised a brow, amused, "Oh?" Kai narrowed his eyes and glared at Adam, "I'm going to make you pay for what you did to Yang that night" Adam let out a short laugh, "So that's what it is? You're here to protect her? Her knight in shining armour here to save the day?"

Kai: "No. I'm not her knight. I'm not her saviour. Or her protector. Yang doesn't need anything or anyone like that. She's tougher than you think" Yang turned to look at Kai in surprise as he continued, "In fact, I'm pretty sure she could have taken you down on her own." he narrowed his gaze at Adam once more, "But, it's like I said. This is personal" Without another word, he dashed forward at Adam, who smirked and dashed to meet him as well. The two exchanged a speedy barrage of well placed strikes, neither one giving any ground. Grunting in frustration at his lack of an advantage, Adam took a leap backwards, before dropping into a stance. His hair glowed a fierce red, along with his blade and the markings on his clothing, and he began to send out red slices at an alarming speed. Kai scoffed, and used his blade to block every single one of them.

Kai: "Nice trick. My turn" Kai's eyes shifted from blue to gold, and bright golden flames coated his blade.

Yang: "No, Kai wait!" Kai dashed forward in a flash of gold, and suddenly appeared before Adam, causing him to blink in surprise. Not missing a beat, he swung his flaming blade heavily at Adam, who barely managed to get his blade in the way. The force of the strike sent Adam flying backwards, tumbling on the ground, before managing to get on his feet and slide to a stop. Kai looked on with a smirk, which quickly left his face as Adam began to laugh.

Adam: "This power..." Adam's body shook with excitement, as his hair and blade began to glow brightly again, "...I've never felt anything like this before!"

Kai: "Uh...what?" Yang called out to him, "I was trying to tell you! His semblance allows him to absorb energy through his blade and store it as his own! Using your semblance is only making him stronger!" Kai frowned at the revelation, "Okay, so he's kind of like you...well, in that case he has to have a limit right?"

Yang: "Not that I know of"

Adam: "Eyes on me" Kai blinked in shock as Adam appeared before him, bringing down his glowing blade in a heavy strike. Quickly he moved his own burning blade to block it, and the impact send them both backwards a few meters. Adam stood straight, hair and blade still glowing, and took in a deep, savoring, breath, "Yes...this feels incredible. Feed me more of this power!" With that he dashed quickly at Kai again, launching strike after strike with his blade. Adam's speed and power had increased, but with Kai's semblance he was able to block and parry each one successfully. But, the problem was, each time their blades connected, Adam was absorbing more and more power. Kai's brows furrowed as Adam leapt backwards a few meters, glowing brightly with energy and laughing loudly.
