New York

Y/N POV

Med school orientation... it all started today. I was currently standing around a student fair with people spread about. I had went to a few of the tables that peaked my interest, which caused me to have a collection of various pamphlets and some recollection of what the various people told me about their booths.

Now, what was I doing? Trying to force myself to converse with other new students or really ANYONE!

Ellie is so good at this part. She helps me with this! Damn her for having the opportunity to leave the US (Lucky). I am just this sad guy standing all lonely. Someone approach me. Ooh! Smile naturally. No that isn't natural. Oh I just scared someone. Stop trying to smile. Just relaxed, calm face... yeah.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around to see a guy who seems... familiar? THINK! THINK Y/N! "Hello! You're Cédric?" I said.

He nodded his head in response and gave a warm smile. "Yes. You are Y/N, from the party? We didn't get to speak really, so I saw you and this seems like a great opportunity," Cédric said.

"Yeah. Is this your first year?" I asked.

"No, actually this is my second year," he told me.

"Awesome, I'm super nervous for this." I said.

"Yeah, it felt like that last year for me. But it was a great time. I'm a bit nervous for my 3rd year, clinicals start," he mentioned.

"At least it will be more hands on. I can't wait for that part! Put knowledge to work," I said. ________________________________________________________________________________

The two of us had been walking around the area. We picked up our textbooks and other information for our years. So far, he seems like a great person and hopefully I come across as a decent human. "Where are you from?" I asked. I know it's a boring question but it can lead to cool conversations.

"I was born in Normandy, France and lived there until I was 5. Then I moved to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Grew up going occasionally to France though, because of family. Where are you from?" He said.

"I'm from New York. Specifically born on Staten Island, but now living in Manhattanville. Which is way less interesting than your places," I said laughing a little at the end.

"No, it's so cool. I did grow up knowing about New York because it was in many American movies that I have watched," he said.

"I guess so, why are you here for education?" I asked.

"I wanted to get away from home. I do love home and it is great. But it is great to step outside of my comfort zone. Although it is expensive here. That was shocking to me," he said.

"Cool. So I'm assuming by where you grew up... you know at least three languages?" I said.

"French, Dutch, English, and Portuguese. What about you?" He told me.

"English, Spanish, Italian, and Arabic," I said.

"Through school?" He asked.

I shook my head no. "From my father, I picked up on Spanish and Arabic. From my mother, I picked up Italian. They were not from America," I said... and immediately knew the 'were', being past tense, would probably throw him off.

"You mean are?" He asked. To which I shook my head no. "Oh, sorry for your loss... So you should come to a party tonight. We can trade contact information and then meet up to go."

I liked that he didn't push the depressing subject. Some people do, which is strange and super sad. "Yeah, that sounds great." I mean... partly a lie, because I'm not a partier. But that's not how you make friends Y/N!

He asked if I had WhatsApp, to which I said yes. I let him punch in his information, which led to him asking if we could also trade other social medias, which was all good with me. "Ok, here it is all done. I also sent a message to myself, to check," Cédric said.

"Cool! Oh! Also, Is there any theme for the party?" I asked. Some people liked themed parties (me being one, if there ever is a party that Ellie would drag me to).

"Yes. It is an 'Anything but clothes' theme," he told me.

Huh, interesting. "Oh... ok," I said. My mind was racing with wonders of what I should do. Overthinking might not be bad now.

"Yeah. So, would you like to go get something to eat with me?" Cédric asked, to which I said a yes.

Off we went to get food. Food, my one true love. I asked to pick the place, and so we went to one of my favourite places which was great because Cédric had never been there before. To new experiences!
