Everyone's life includes triumphs and failures. Lia's just had more failures than other. At least that's what she thought.
When Lia arrived home from the Malfoy Manor she undressed and stepped into her shower. It was so hot, her skin turned red. When she got out of the tub she tried to resist the urge to pull out her scale. If I'm going to start eating more, I mind as well see how much I weigh. I can't eat too much, though.
When Lia dropped her white towel and stepped on the electronic scale, it read: 86.3 lbs. What the fuck? I don't look 86 lbs. She moved off the balance and looked into the mirror. She expected to find an emaciated girl with bones protruding her skin but when she looked, it was quite the opposite.
Fat rolled up on her stomach, her thighs stuck together, and her face was rounded in a plump shape. A tear rolled down her face for the third time in a day. Why can't I look like I weigh 86 lbs? What is wrong with me? Lia collapsed on her wet, cold, and tiled bathroom floor.
What am I going to do? I promised Draco. I don't want to gain weight. What if I get sent away to a mental institution? I'm not ill. Why don't I just leave?
Lia had thought about it once or twice. The idea of leaving this God forsaken Earth. It would be so easy. No troubles or worries. She knew she promised Draco, but what was a promise when you're dead. Lia took a blade, the sharpest one she had. It would work, it had to.
She lied back in the bathtub, filling it with hot water. When the porcelain was full, Lia pressed down the metal into her wrist, hard. Blood gushed into the pool around her, turning it a bright red. Tears simultaneously descended down her face. This was it, she felt it as everything started going black. Right before her ears started to ring, she heard a whoosh. Did somebody just apparate into her room?
Draco's Pov:
Just before Draco was about to settle into bed, he found a necklace lying on his nightstand. It was Lia's. She must have taken it off and forgot it in his room. She always wears the necklace, so he wanted to return it and check on her.
Draco apparated into Lia's room. He hoped she wasn't sleeping, because he didn't want to wake her up. But as he looked around, her room was empty, filled only with silence. His ear twitched slightly at the sound of water dripping. Is she taking a bath? It's quite late for one. Draco knocked on her bathroom door, praying she would answer.
"Lia, I have your necklace. You left it at my place, so I wanted to drop it off." Quietness only followed and Draco began to worry.
He didn't want to, but he pointed his wand at her door, unlocking it. When it opened with a creak, he immediately ran to her. Lia's wrists were covered in blood and deep gashes, a blade hanging from her finger tips. He tried to remember the spells he had learned this year for healing.
"Episkey," he frantically whispered. Her wounds closed up in a matter of seconds. Draco knelt down and carried her bare body out of the blood filled tub. He tried to be respectful and not look at her body as much as possible while he wrapped her limp figure in a towel.
Draco carried her covered body into Mattheo's room.
"MATTHEO! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!" Draco yelled.
Mattheo groaned but when he opened his eyes, he shot out of bed. "What the hell happened! Why are you in my house?" Mattheo questioned.
"I'll explain everything later. We need to get to St. Mungo's," Draco said as he grabbed Mattheo's shoulder and apparated them to the hospital.
When they got there it was all a blur. There was screaming and running. Cries of fear from both boys. Matrons tried to stay calm as they tried to get Lia in a stable condition. While waiting in a separate room, Draco explained how he found Lia.
"I'm sorry," Draco apologized as Mattheo looked away from him.
"I should have known. She was suffering and I was fooled by her facade."
"Do you know why she harms herself? I mean I thought she had a pretty good life, why would she do this?"
"There's more to it, Draco. Our father, h-he hits her and I can't stop it. Our mother, she calls Lia fat and ugly. Tells her not to eat. I'm their "perfect" son, so Lia only gets it. Merlin, I should have known," Mattheo finishes, putting his face in his palms.
Before Draco could comfort him, a voice calls: "Mr. Rivers and Mr. Malfoy, she's awake. Follow me," a doctor says.
Lia's Pov:
Lia flutters open her eyes, immediately hit with a bright light. Am I in heaven? That whole thought goes in the trash when familiar voices fill her ears.
"Lia," she hears her brother, Mattheo, say.
"How am I alive right now?" Lia quietly asks.
"I found you, Lia. I apparated to your room after you left your necklace at my house. I discovered you in the bathroom," Draco replies in a shaky voice, the images of her blood soaked arms and sickly thin body engraved into his mind.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean- I didn't know-" Lia starts.
"It's not your fault, Lia," Mattheo cuts off Lia.
"Am I going to get sent somewhere? I don't want to. Please, don't make me."
"Lia, you need professional help. You're not mentally stable," Draco says to her.
"No, I'm going to Hogwarts. I won't do it again. I promise."
"You made a promise to me yesterday, Lia. Then you go and try and kill yourself. Obviously promises mean nothing to you."
Lia stays silent.
"If you're going to stay at Hogwarts, here's what you're going to do. You're going to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with Draco and I. You're going to sleep in my dorm every night. And you're going to come to St. Mungo's every week for therapy in the Mental Health unit," Mattheo declares.
"Fine, I'll do it," Lia agrees.
