Weeks passed by, Lia starting losing weight less rapidly, but her friends became more worried. Draco was distant and cold, not even looking at her during their study sessions. Even if he was faking his nice act, she still preferred it to that.
"I'll see you after break, then?" Lia asked Draco.
"Yea," Draco blankly replied.
"I don't want to be like this, Draco," Lia said.
"I'm showing you who you think I am. You don't trust me enough to think I've changed."
"Why should I trust you? You've done nothing but bully me for years with Greengrass after I did nothing to you. Then, all the sudden you become nice and caring?"
"I'm trying to change, okay? I'm sorry and I know that doesn't make up for the things I've said to you."
"You're right, it doesn't. Because look at what it did to me. Your minutes of fun and laughs, gave me years of suffering."
"You think I don't know that! I'm trying to be better, because I can't live with myself knowing that when I was a kid I thought it was cool to pick on one of best friend's sister. But now, I know it's not okay, and I want to help you."
"You can't help me, Draco. It's not only you I have or had to deal with."
"What do you mean? Is someone else still bullying you."
Lia shook her head, a tear escaping one of her eyes before she quickly wiped it away.
"I can't tell you. You can't fix it."
"Lia, please-"
"Draco, I'll try and gain your trust again. But stop trying to get involved in things that don't involve you," Lia declared. How could Draco try and ruin her chances of becoming thin?
"If that's what you really want, Lia."
Lia nodded her head, relieved.
"I'll see you after break, Draco."
Then Lia left
After the train ride to her house, Lia walked inside her manor with Mattheo. It was cold and felt nothing like a home.
"Welcome home, Mattheo," Lia's father, Arthur, greeted his son. He brought Mattheo in for a hug, completely ignoring Lia. Lia was used to it, and headed up to her room. She didn't want to get in trouble.
Her room was empty, most of her things were at Hogwarts.
"Lia, come downstairs!" Lia's mother, Beth, called.
She didn't really want to deal with her mother right now, but she didn't really have a choice. She quickly ran down to stairs, not wanting to get yelled at, or worse. Lia walked into the dining room where her brother, Aruther, and Beth were sitting.
"We're gonna have dinner. But you're looking a bit heavier since I've last saw you, like you've put on weight. I don't really think you need it," Beth said.
Lia knew her mother was right, but her words still stung. Lia nodded her head. When she looked around the table she saw her dad drinking a bottle of bourbon. It's going to be bad tonight. I thought he stopped drinking.
Mattheo sat at the table, looking down at his food. He always tried to stick up for her, but it just got Lia in more trouble. When her dad would hit her after Mattheo spoke up, he would say things like, 'You're brain washing my son!' 'You're no daughter of mine' 'You we're mistake' 'I don't know why your brother is defending you, your mother is right'
Lia knew when her father got drunk, there was so no stopping the beatings. After heading upstairs again Lia sink into bed, dreading the inevitable, An hour later she heard dinner getting cleaned up. She curled into a ball on her mattress as footsteps creeped closer to her door until it opened, revealing a very drunk Arthur.
He stepped toward her, reaching out and dragging her by the hair off the safety of her bed. Lia was kicked and punched everywhere like she were Arthur's personal punching bag. When her father finally left, Lia stayed huddled on the floor until her door opened again. Salty tears were streaming down her face as Mattheo picked her up bridal style and carried her into her sheets.
He inspected her bruises, making sure to heal any cracked bones with his wand. After he was done, he stayed by her side, whispering sweet words into her ear and stroking her now thin hair. They remained like that until she fell into a deep sleep, her thin body still trembling. When he was sure she was resting, her brother put a finger on her wrist, feeling the dangerously slow beat of her heart.
He didn't know what to do. She was slowly killing herself and he didn't know how to help. Worst of all, he knew she would reject any.
