Komugi hummed a little tune as she walked to her room. Meruem had to go on a last-minute errand, so she couldn't see him right now. As disappointed as she was, it did give her some downtime to go over her Gungi skills.

She was walking through the hallway when she accidentally made a wrong turn and ended up in a completely different area of the palace. She realized her mistake when she ran into a wall.

Not knowing what to do, she continued to walk through the grand hallway using her walking stick to guide her.

She kept walking until some noise caught her attention. Someone was yelling nearby, and they didn't sound very happy.

Komugi sighed. It sounded like another soldier was getting a scolding. It wasn't uncommon for the Royal Guard to yell at soldiers. Meruem used to do it a lot, but he's gotten a lot more patient with them.

She knew she should just leave it alone and go, but she couldn't help but get curious.

She pressed her ear on what felt like a door and listened. The person yelling sounded angry. Another voice could be heard in the back, yelling back. It sounded more like an argument than anything. Komugi could feel uneasy aura even from behind the door.

"Oh for crying out loud, it's not. that. big. of. a deal!"

"I've warned you something like this would happen, Pitou. I've told you! But, of course, no one ever listens to Pouf! "

"Pouf and Pitou?" Komugi thought to herself. "What are they doing here? Is this some kind of meeting?"

"Now, the king's good name will be spoiled!"

The word "king" caught the attention of Komugi. They were clearly talking about Meruem.

"I get that you're upset, but there's nothing that can be done. If this is what the king wants, we'll make it happen."

"That's easy for you to say, you're the one who's been setting this up! I hope you're happy, making the great king care for that lowly, waste of fle-!"

Out of nowhere, the sound of glass breaking was heard; then silence. After a little while, Komugi heard Pitou speak.

"I won't tolerate any disrespect towards the girl. She's part of the king's life now, your future queen. Any insult to her will result in me tearing your wings off."

"Tch, you've become such a soft little thing, protecting a burden like her. I'm disgusted."

Komugi took her ear off the door. She's heard enough. It was obvious they were arguing about her.

She turned around to walk away but bumped into something. Komugi was confused, (since she JUST came from that direction) but then realized what it was when a malicious aura hit her. It just occurred to her that there were only two Royal guards in the room.

"Human girl?" Youpi asked. "What are you doing here?"

Komugi, unsure of what to say, laughed nervously. "Ah, Mr. Youpi! What a surprise! I thought you went with the king."

"He didn't want anyone going with him, so we all stayed behind."

"O-oh, I see."

Komugi stayed quiet for a bit. She noticed that the room she was listening to had gone completely silent too. They must've heard Youpi mention her.

Youpi opened the door to see a completely trashed room. Both Royal guards were just standing there, both bruised and not saying anything.

"What the hell happened here?" Youpi asked.

Pouf took one look at the girl behind Youpi and scoffed. "If you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way now."

Pitou glared at him. "Pouf-"

Pouf ignored Pitou and stormed out of the room.

Pitou looked back at Youpi. "We were just having a little argument, that is all."

They then turned to Komugi.  "Miss. Komugi, shouldn't you be elsewhere? I doubt it's very fun being in the Royal Guard quarters."

Komugi perked up. "I.. kind of got lost on my way back to my room and ended up here. Sorry.."

Pitou nodded. "I'd be more than happy to lead you back to your room," they said. "Youpi, if you could, please wait here until I come back."

Komugi and Pitou walked together quietly. Komugi wanted to break the tension, but the atmosphere was way too awkward.

As she opened her mouth to say finally something, Pitou spoke up.

"Ms. Komugi, may I ask you a question?"

Komugi looked at Pitou and nodded.

"Did you happen to overhear anything back in the room?"

Komugi's heart dropped. She WANTED to lie, but Pitou already knew how much of a bad liar she was.

She hung her head in shame.

".. I did. I'm sorry, I really shouldn't have been eavesdropping like that. It won't happen again."

Komugi reflected on what Pouf said about her. She was already aware that he didn't like her; and as tough as she was about it, it still hurt. And Pitou saw that.

Pitou came to a sudden halt. Komugi stopped walking as well.

"..Pitou? Are you ok? ..are you mad at me?"

Pitou took a loud breath and spoke.

"You know what kind of a jerk Pouf is, don't let that wuss get to you," Pitou said. "He's just.. getting used to things. We all are."

Pitou gave Komugi a little pat on the shoulder. "You're technically part of the Royal Family now. Wear that title with pride."

Before Komugi could respond to anything, the Guard began to walk ahead again.

"Besides! What's the worst he can do? Fight you? His wings are far too precious for that." Pitou called out.

Komugi stood still for a second to process everything. She smiled a little as she ran to catch up to Pitou. She couldn't help but feel safe around them. She was glad to have them by her side.
