HIS SMILE

I waited patiently, sitting at a table that was close to the glass window, showing onto the street. A few cars passed here and there which added to the whole serene atmosphere.

I texted him the time and place we should meet but came earlier because I didn't want to be a minute late this time. I heard the door to the diner open, my eyes went first, catching his gaze. He walked towards my direction and sat opposite me.

"Hi." He greeted me. I nodded.

"Hey. Thanks for coming." I said. He nodded in response.

"Don't worry, I am here to apologize for being so rude the first time we met so..." He trailed off. It felt a bit awkward between us for some reason I don't know. "Did you order anything yet?" He asked. I shook my head.

"I wanted to wait till you got here." I replied honestly. He replies with another awkward nod.

"Okay then. Let me order it then." He gets up and goes to the counter. I stare after him as he goes and stands at the counter, conversing with one of the staff.

His outfit seems to make me hungry, not exactly for food, but to know who he is, what he's like. I want to discover ever part of him as a whole. I turn my gaze away from him when I realize that he's coming back with the coffee.

"I didn't even ask you for what you wanted, I'm sorry." He asked as he placed a cup full of good looking coffee in front of me.

"Don't worry. I'm not a picky eater and I barely have any allergies so I'm good with anything." I said and took a sip of it. It was good. "It's delicious." I commented. He smiled lightly. His smile was absolutely just wonderful. It was like angels singing to my soul...

"That's good to hear. My mom and I loved this kind of coffee. Everywhere we went, we would order this." He says. The fact that he's talking about himself already made me feel warm within me.

"Aww, those must be quite precious memories to you huh?" I played along with him.

"Oh yeah. Even now that she's gone, I love that she introduced it to me. It's one of the things I'll never forget." He said. Umph.

"Oh, sorry about your mom." I sympathized. He waved it off.

"That was like four years ago, I'm over it." He replied. I nodded, speaking no more of the matter.

"I'm really sorry about telling you off that day-" I start but he cuts in waving a dismissive hand.

"Oh no no, I started it by being a d*ck about the parking. I should've been more gentle. I'm sorry." He apologized. I nodded. We both just drank the coffee for a few minutes silently. I looked around, mentally noting to come here often.

The miniscule diner gave off quite a feeling, with glass windows that went from the ceiling to the grond. Everything was either white or beige. I liked it. I picked it myself but I had never been here. I just picked a place closer to my apartment so I wouldn't have to drive far.

"Do you come here often?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Oh no, I just chose this place cus it was the closest to my apartment." I answered.

"Oh okay." He looked out the window. "It's really strange." He said, confusing me.

"What is?" I asked. He shrugged and met my questioning gaze.

"You asking me to get coffee with you. I expected you to be mad for me being so rough with you but you don't seem to mind it at all." He stated the obvious. I shrugged.

"I'm just... let's see," I leaned forward, crossing my arms, "a little bit too laid back to actually care about somethings. Plus, even though you were rude, I have to be honest here...you're hot. Now that I think about it, your anger kinda fits your looks." I spoke freely. He chuckled, leaning forward as well.

Now we were practically flirting.

"Oh really? I'm hot?" I nodded. He smirked. "I'm touched. I've heard that quite a few times but not this boldly, coming from a girl." He said. His hazel eyes sparkle subtly as he continues staring.

"I'm not the shy type, that I can tell you." I respond sultrily. He chuckles again, loudly though. He leans back in his chair but maintains eye contact.

"You're a breath of fresh air Miss Daei." He says. I swear my heartbeat accelerated. I took in a deep breath and exhaled as I sat back.

"That's good, you still remember my name." I swerved his comment. He nodded.

"Yes I do." He simply said and didn't say anymore. From there, we started talking about how he became Mr Brighton's secretary. Then we talked about my life and how I got into the art business. We spoke for quite a long time, we didn't even realize how fast the day passed and soon, it was late afternoon, almost evening as the sky turned a beautiful pinkish-orange.

I picked my phone and the screen on to see the time. 17:37pm. Damn. We've been here since 11am till now.

"Woah, we've been here for way too long." I said out loud. He checked his own phone and snorted.

"Yeah that's quite long." He responded. None of us made a move to leave though.

"One of the art galleries I work with is holding a showcase this Sunday, you wanna come?" I asked. He smiled widely and nodded.

"That would be nice." I felt more than comfortable but at the same time, I felt like squirming. He was cute in many ways. When he smiles, when he did that thing where he sucked in a bit of air before he spoke, when he bit his lip as he was deep in thought...

He was also very funny and not to mention, a bit of a drama queen. I loved his red hair too, it was like I was attracted to everything he did and said. I was even attracted to his anger. That's insane but yeah, that's me, Amalia Daphie Daei.
