Shinobu

It was a beautiful night. The moon was in a crescent form. Owls hooting in the forest as I walked along the path. I was heading to a town in the southeast of Japan. The Master assigned me on a solo mission. A town was being terrorized by a demon that hunts children at night. Once I got there the sun was going down.

"Ara ara. Not many people here." I muttered. I walked to the nearby housing area. Where I saw two children playing with fireflies. Watching them, reminded me of my older sister Kanae and I so much. I walked passed them. I knocked on the door gently. An older woman opened it.

"Ah, a traveler." The woman spoke taking notice of me. "Children!! You best come inside! It's getting dark!! You must come inside too." The woman ushered the children and I.

I watched the children ran past me. They were smiling and laughing. Something I forced myself to do ever since that day. One of the girls walked over to me. I smiled kneeling down to her level.

"Why hello there child. It's awful nice to meet you." I said. The girl grabbed my hand. For second I thought it was me grabbing my sister's hand like that. My eyes widen a bit.

"My name is Kanae." The girl said with happiness. Once more I forced a smile. I forced myself to be happy. Even though I'm sad.

"Why hello K-Kanae. My name is Shinobu Kocho." I mustered.

The girl took me over to a pond area. "I like flowers!!" She declared. I smiled softly. Her sister came over to us. Her sister eyed me but with fascination with my attire.

"My name is Akira. Where are you from?" She exclaimed to me. I smiled at her enthusiasm. The elderly woman came over to us- I think she's their grandmother.

I gotten myself ready to go out. Making my way down the stairs, the two girls stopped me.

"Where are you going?"

"There's a bad monster out there! Please don't go!"

They pleaded with me. I smiled warmly at their pleas. I knelt to their level.

"Now, now you mustn't worry. I'll be alright you'll see. Soon the monster, will be gone forever." I stated.

My words seemed to ease their worries. I got up heading towards the door.

"Are you a demon slaywer?" Little Kanae questioned.

"I am."

Leaving the town's edge towards the forest. The night was really beautiful. It reminded me of when Tomioka-san and I were assigned to Mount Natagumo. Where I told him that I loved him.

Tomioka-san.....

At last, I found a trail of blood from an abandon home. My hand began to tingle on my sword's handle.

Blood. Lots of Blood.

In the hallway, stood a demon covered in...water. It was devouring a woman.

"A Human.....here in the night. Why lucky me." It sneered. Turning it's head to look at me.

"Oh but a demon slayer. But wait... A Hashira? Now that is quite a sight to see." It said.

I stood there. "Perhaps you and I can be friends. I'll let you live if you can tell me how many humans have you eaten." I stated casually.

The demon looked confused for a moment before he eyes caught something.

"That haori.....you wear. " It began.

My haori? Wait a minute that dark blood red coloring in his clothing. Could it be....

"Miss Kocho-sama!!!"

I gasped loudly turning around quickly. The little girl Kanae. No....No...NO.

"Leave at once, Kanae!!!! It's not safe for you to be here!!!!" I shouted at her.

The demon watched our interaction before taking out two golden fans.

Golden Fans....He must be...

"The Demon...his clothes are blood red and has blonde hair with rainbow eyes." My sister's last words when she spoke to me. As she was dying in my arms.

"Do you remember this Haori!!!! The one that I wear?!? The one who wore this before me! Do you remember the Flower Hashira Kanae Kocho!!!!" I yelled at it.

The demon suddenly smiled at me.

"Oh! HO-HO-HO! YES I remember the Flower Hashira!! The one that I did not get to eat due to the sun coming up. I honestly wished to eat before hand though. What a shame. To fight for something that will only be their ultimate death." The Demon boasted.

Did he just...admitted to killing my sister.

AHHHHHHHH!

Tch! I let the demon slip from me and let it get to the girl.

"What a nice snack." The demon spoke licking its lips.

"Miss K-Kocho-sama!! H-help me!" Kanae pleaded.

This girl is in danger. And yet, here I stand. I need to move.

I leaned forward with sword in my hand.

Insect Breathing: Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter.

Within in seconds, I had Kanae in my arms away from the demon. I looked at the demon. He was stunned at my speed. He was bleeding as well but....he was somewhat not effective to my poison.

The girl appeared to be unharmed.

"Kanae are you alright? Are you hurt?" I asked.

The girl shook her head.

"No. I'm fine."

I smiled.

"Good. Now I want you to run as you can. And whatever happens do not look back."

"Aww, what is the matter? Getting tired are we?" The demon asked me.

I swung my sword over my head. My eyes held anger, hatred for this demon. For making my life a living hell.

"Since you tried to attack this girl. We are no longer friends."

"Huh? Well then I was hoping to be friends with you, Shinobu-san." He stated.

I cringed when he said my name.

Were standing outside the home now, snow began to fall around us. Making it a snowy battlefield.

I signaled my crow to send for help with my hand behind my back. It flew off in another direction.

I need to send a message to headquarters that I need backup.

Then my mind floating to one Pillar in particular.

Tomioka Gyiuu-san.
