July 17th, 2015:

I had gone for a run in the early hours of the morning. I couldn't seem to get any meaningful sleep and hoped a quick jog could tire me out enough to get an extra couple of hours in before we had to leave for Dallas.

The streets were a lot emptier than they had been during the day. However, they still weren't completely deserted, New York was never deserted. I get to the edge of the island and sit down on a bench looking out at the murky water. I sit there for a few minutes before someone joins me on the bench. It was a scrawny-looking guy, he seemed rather tired himself.

I go to stand up and leave him be, but he speaks looking at me.

"I hope you're not leaving because of me," he says, "I don't want to make you uncomfortable. I just feel like anyone out this early in the morning probably needs company".

"Oh... uh... no," I say shyly, "I have to be getting back anyways".

He nods his head, going back to look at the water.

"You can never make friends in this city" I hear him whisper.

I look back at him. Maybe he needed someone to be with instead of the other way around.

"Unless you need someone to be with right now," I say, sitting back down next to him.

"You speak French?" he says surprised.

"I'm from Québec... the French-speaking part of Canada," I nod.

"That's cool," the man smiles, "I'm from New York, far less interesting," he chuckles.

"No, that's still cool," I smile back, "New York is such an interesting city filled with even more interesting people".

"Do you live here?" he asks me.

"Um, no... I'm here for work," I answer.

"Work? Aren't you like 18?" he laughs.

"Yeah, I am," I laugh slightly, realising how that sounded, "well... I'm actually a singer, from Korea. I'm here for a concert".

"Wait what! For real? Now you for sure are more interesting than me," he says eyes wide.

"Yeah..." I blush, "what about you?".

"I'm an actor, like every other person in New York," he chuckle, "but mostly now I'm a university student".

"Anything I might have seen you in?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.
