Terrence
I was in the office working on the blueprint of one of the newest projects assigned to the company I worked for. I was looking at the rough sketch of what the client was hoping to have their home look like when my phone rang.
I answered without glancing at the caller ID, completely focused on my work. "This is Terrence speaking." I answered the way I answer phone numbers that aren't saved.
"Hey- uh, it's Dakota? From two nights ago?" There was a nervous chuckle that followed. I found myself blinking out of my focus and sitting up straight as I glanced at my phone.
"Dakota, hey, sorry, I'm at work so I didn't check before answering."
"Oh, is it a bad time then?" I glanced at the clock and grinned since it was lunch time.
"Actually you are right on time." I stood from my desk and stretched. "How are you?" I got my lunch bag as my stomach grumbled then.
"I'm great," he chuckled and cleared his throat. "I'm actually heading to my next class now, I thought I'd give you a call." I was smiling as I chewed on a protein bar.
"Well, I'm glad. Have any plans tonight?"
"Uh- no, no, I don't. Why? You wanna kidnap me?" I smiled at the playful tone before laughing, feeling at ease with his sudden comfort.
"Well, not exactly, but, I don't know, maybe we could have dinner? Pizza and a movie?"
"That sounds so great. Uh-we can do this at my place, if you don't mind."
"Only if you have Netflix."
"Only a loser wouldn't." We chuckled then and I went to the staff kitchen to warm my food while Dakota talked to me about how his day was going and how his weekend went. He told me about his family barbeque and how he was babysitting kids that belonged to his parents friends.
We had already found out while having ice cream that Dakota was a tender 22 year old studying nursing while I was a 26 year old architect. Trevor was 24 and Keegan was the same age as me and working at the same company.
We ended the call and I was smiling at my phone when my food had finished and cooled a bit. I sat at the table in the kitchen and went through my phone as I ate.
Keegan burst through talking on his phone. "Well, you can't tell me to postpone a meeting with a client just because you were lazy during the weekend. You know how important this is," Keegan rolled his eyes at me and shook his head. "Well I don't know John, maybe next time prioritize better."
He hung up and warmed his food before sitting across from me. "I need my boyfriend." He huffed and I chuckled.
Yes, after the ice cream, I took Dakota home while Keegan stayed with Trevor and they went where ever they went to do what ever grown men do. By Saturday evening Keegan had a boyfriend and was a happy mess.
"If your going to start talking about him, I'm going to throw my food at you."
Keegan only sighed happily and instead showed me his lockscreen which was Trevor at the beach and I groaned. "I mean, he's so perfect." He shook his head, his statement was just gross and sounded so lovestruck and sure. "I don't understand how a man like this just exists."
