"Tobias, I have cancer, and I'm not sure how much longer I have to live..."
"What?" I yell. "Why? How?"
"I don't know. I wasn't feeling well. I had pains in my chest and other body parts." She explains. I decided to go to the hospital, the one Cara and Caleb work at. They gave me a check up and ran some tests. While they were doing that," she pauses before continuing again, "I almost passed out after throwing up. They took some blood samples and ran more tests...the results said cancer."
"Well isn't there something that can be done?" I asked frantically.
"Cara said her and Caleb were working on an antibiotic that may slow the process but not stop it completely. Not yet. That can't afford the technology needed." As she says this she looks in my eyes for some response. I fall into my chair.
It feels like someone has whacked me in the gut. First I lost Tris, and now there is a possible chance of losing the only other person I loved.
"Tobias?" My mother asks. I look up at her, trying not to cry. "I'm so sorry." She whispers before turning around and walking away. I hear the door silently close, and I let all of the emotions I've been feeling wash over me.
I scream, loudly letting out all angst and frustration of Zeke's secretiveness, my job, being all alone, and finally the realization that no matter what I try to do, it might not be enough to save my mother. I try not to, but a small tear escapes me. I soon start crying, still screaming out a bunch of obscurities.
Author's Note: Hey guys. Sorry the chapter is so short. I didn't really have much to write for this chapter I just wanted you guys to see Tobias' reaction to what his mom said a few chapters ago. Yes, I made his mom have cancer, I am really sorry . Maybe she'll live! New chapters will be appearing tomorrow so if you have read up to here check tomorrow night for more!☺
