𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑦 𝑇ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒

"Steve!" I'm startled once I wake to see his side of the bed empty. He's by my side in an instant. "Hey I'm ok, I'm here and I'm ok. I just went to get a glass of water." His words reassure me but I still need to reach out and place my hand against his cheek to make sure he was here and solid, that he wasn't a pile of ash ready to disintegrate.

"Sorry." He shakes his head at my apology like he had done every night this past week, "it's alright Cora, go back to bed and try to get some rest." I shake my head and run my hand through my hair, pulling it from my sweat stricken forehead.

"No, it's alright I'm just gonna go shower or swim or something. You should go back to sleep though, I'm sorry for freaking out." He takes my hand in his as concern washes over his face. "Are you sure?" I nod with a tight smile, "I won't be long."

"Just stay safe ok?" I nod and kiss his cheek before getting up."You got it Captain." He manages a smile as I give him my usual salute and shakes his head hating that I still did it.

I'm surprised to my sister at the pool. "Hey." I startle her but she relaxes when she sees that it's only me. "Hey." She echos before returning to staring at the nothingness ahead of her.

"You ok?"
"No."

I nod in understanding but don't say anything as I sit beside her at the pools edge. "Anything I can do?" I ask as she shakes her head. "No." And so the silence resumes.

"I think I'm gonna go home." My head snaps up, "what do you mean? Like mermaid home?" She nods "I was thinking when Braden goes back I'd go with him." She explains and all I can do is nod. "You don't think I should?" She asks and I shrug, "if that's what you want, or what you need then I say go for it ." She looks surprised. "Really?"

"You know that you always have a home with me Kai, but we were raised in two completely different worlds, we have different roots and if you need to go back to yours I get it." She looks at me for a moment before her eyes well up and she leans forward and wraps her arms around me.

"I'm scared if I go it'll be like before. When we weren't sisters." She mumbles making me shake my head as I run my fingers through her hair. "Couldn't happen, you weaselled your way into my life and I don't think I could ever let you go now, besides we were always sisters." She sniffles as her arms tighten around me.

Once she pulls away she wipes under her eyes and smiles at me, "I love you coral." I nod with a grin of my own, "love you too."

She seems lighter now, like she could actually relax, "why are you awake?" She questions making me shrug, "another bad dream." She nods in understanding, "I get them too, I feel like every time I close my eyes, all I can see is Bucky fading away."

"Steve is optimistic that they'll bring everyone back." I try and comfort her but it doesn't seem to work. "And what about you? What do you think?" I don't want to lie to her and say I shared Steve's feelings but I didn't want to discourage her further.

"I don't know. Anything is possible, if we can find Thanos and get the stones off him we could do it." I answer making her nod, "how could we possibly get the stones from him, did you not see how powerful he was?"

"We'd find a way Kai, we'd be more prepared and we'd plan it out perfectly." She nods, "yeah maybe."

"So you wanna swim or try and get some rest?" I ask trying to change the subject and distract her, it works as a small smile takes place on her face. "Swim with you duh." I laugh and push her forwards into the pool making her screech before she joins in with the laughter and then reaches forward to pull me down so that I'm in the water with her.
