As Elaine made her way inside King Kafé, she looked around to catch a whiff of the familiar blond hair, and once she found it, she hastily made her way over to the seat. At the appearance of Elaine, the blond gestured a gentle wave her way. He needed to act soft and affectionate to completely win her over. "Arlo, I've brought the book you wanted." She said as she slipped into the seat in front of him with a smile, placing the bag she brought along with her to indicate the location of such property.
"Thank you, Elaine. I'm blessed to have your help." He sugar-coated his words, making her cheeks blush slightly at the sound of that. His lips curled into a tight smile—and Elaine believed that there was no girl in this universe that is able resist this handsome face.
Elaine chuckled a little, "I-it's nothing, really." Placing her hands on top of each other as she sat timidly, "On the topic of this book... What do you plan to do with it? It is a banned book after all."
Arlo smiled at her, one so sweet, Elaine might just melt. "I just want to make sure it's not a forgery. This is a book that has been banned for a long time, and it is odd that Seraphina suddenly was able to get her hands on a copy of it. After that, I will look into the consequences of owning the book, if the punishment is severe, then I'd think that we should keep it a secret."
Now, Arlo is dying to expel Seraphina and that isn't a lie, but in front of someone who was her roommate and someone who knew her on a more personal level, it's best not to talk as though he was looking forward to her expulsion. It'd set a bad impression onto her. "A secret? But what if Seraphina turns into one of those vigilantes?" Arlo blinked at her sudden argument, "I'm scared for her safety, you know how Rei turned out... People at Wellston never takes their lives serious... I don't want Seraphina to turn out the same way."
Arlo simple hummed a giggle, "Elaine you're very considerate." He complimented, and no doubt, her heart fluttered at the words. The last time she talked to him, he was as cold as ever, but this time... He was as sweet as sugar. What had changed Arlo? But then again—Elaine can't say that she particularly hates this side of him. "Your points are valid, really. But before we take any further steps, let's see how she reacts after reading the book. If it's for the worse, then we'll report her to Headmaster Vaughn."
"I don't think I can wait that long." Elaine glanced at Arlo's confused expression before continuing, "As you know, vigilantes are mainly composed of high-tiers to god-tiers, and most of them turn up dead... That means the people these vigilantes fight are much stronger than them," She bites at her lips before continuing—even as to suck in a deep breath, as though the conversation from now on forward is a heavy and difficult one. "And who knows? Maybe the one Seraphina will encounter will be much stronger than her. And... well... you already know the result of Rei. If we keep waiting, she'll be dead before we know it."
Elaine really played into his hand. He gave an amused hum as he appeared to be deep in thought. "I see. Seraphina is very lucky to have such a caring friend as you."
A sudden wave of blush over took Elaine's face, "W-well, I wouldn't really consider us to be fr-friends—but I do care for her for the sake of Wellston. She's the strongest student so far. But... it's a shame—what she's turning out to be like now..."
This sentence caught Arlo by surprise, he thought of Elaine to be a loyal supporter of Seraphina—but maybe, in a way, he wasn't wrong. "What do you mean?"
"You don't know? Surely, you had noticed too..." But seeing the obvious confusion on his face, she couldn't help but feel a little surprised. "Seraphina's slacking, if I can put it that way. Before, she was never like this. She was always the tidy and strict student that everyone talk about, perfect grades, perfect role model... But lately, she's been nothing like that." Did she mean... Arlo could feel his smile falter, "At first, it was the little things, not showing up to class, turning in assignments right before the due date... hanging out with John at the mall frequently..."
