Hey

John

What's up

Are you home yet?

C'mon let's go play some games

Wake up wake up

Wake up right now

Huh. No answer. Seraphina thought. Usually John is pretty good at replying to her texts, but this time, he didn't even read them at all, despite being "online". She wonders if John really had taken her advice, she knew that he was always a stubborn one, but... Arlo might just have proven that he was more dangerous than she thought. Those lies he's told John... She wonders what's that all about? She doesn't even get to ask more about those lies because her ride had arrived earlier than expected, and John had suddenly decided to drop the bomb on her.

Normally, she wouldn't get so worked up over something like this—it didn't even appear to be such a big deal... It's not like Arlo was telling any lies that were too serious... Yeah, they could be much worse. At least John would be extra-protected against any foolish mid-tiers who dares to pick a fight with him. Right now, she should focus on getting onto her mother's good side. After that slap to the face, she knows that her mother isn't going to let her off easily.

She was most likely going to be forced to spend hours after hours on work that wouldn't benefit her much and kept on a tight schedule. Then, a simple rinse and repeat. She knew this all too well.

A ping caught her attention, and she redirected her attention back onto her phone screen. John had texted back to her, finally! Maybe he was doing something earlier.

[Im hanging otu with arlo at woba boba rn maybe wehn skool ends?]

His typing has always been nearly unreadable. It's a wonder how Seraphina manages to communicate with the boy at all—maybe it was an ability that built up over time? As she read over the text a second time, she realized what John said.

He's hanging out with Arlo at Woba Boba? So he didn't take my advice at all. But... How are they already this close? The Arlo Seraphina remembers would never hang out with a low-tier like John, and... the last time she saw them, they weren't really close with each other at all... So what made him agree? John definitely would have asked Arlo to be polite, but Arlo? He now acts like a whole new person ever since she left. It's so weird but at the same time, she's having second thoughts about this whole situation.

I feel so jealous... But, John can have other friends too... I'm getting too riled up over something so mundane. Ugh—that's so embarrassing... She thought, sagging onto her desk as she slowly typed back her responding text.

Oh ok

Btw I beat your high score at flappy pigs again

The game is kind of too easy

A second passed as she just stared blankly at the screen—John hadn't responded. He must be pretty busy trying to accompany someone as stoic as Arlo, why would he take the blond to Woba Boba anyways? Will someone like him even drink anything sweet? She then placed her phone back onto the table and sighed, rolling her already fatigued shoulders and doing a little bit of stretching. There was so much work waiting for her at home, and to think that she did all of this work on her own free will... She couldn't wait to go back to Wellston where she at least had more freedom than inside this personal cage and being watched 24/7.

On the other side of the screen, John resisted the urge to read Seraphina's texts again—at least he knew to have basic etiquette. "Who texted you?" Arlo asked, despite already having an idea of who it was.
