Chapter 18

Anirudh's felt the blood rushing through his head as he leaned agaisnt the wall, holding the baby who was tucked under his jacket tightly.

Saritha swallowed her saliva as she gripped the boy's hand tightly while her eyes darted to the corner where Jacky stood on its hind legs.

The dog turned its soulful eyes at Saritha before looking down at the stairs causing Saritha to exhale her breath.

" Come," She whispered nudging the boy forward before gripping Anirudh hand and dragged him with her.

" We are doomed!" Anirudh kept muttering while Saritha turned deaf to his words.

The pair and the dog along with the little boy attempted to flee the building.

Saritha swallowed her saliva as they reached the first floor. She turned around and hissed at Anirudh to shut his trap causing the man to furrow his eyebrows.

Anirudh was about to open his mouth to argue back when Jacky let out a bark. Saritha frowned and quickly held the boy in her arms and ducked under the staircase, pulling Anirudh to squat down next to her.

Her eyes widened while Anirudh furrowed his eyebrows as they heard footsteps.

They watched in horror as they saw the same elderly couple who knocked on Anirudh's door a week ago.

Jacky barked at the couple causing the couple to stagger away.

" Yaarode nai nu teriyele!" The man hissed as he pointed the knife at Jacky who barked menacingly.

" Anthe naai kadakuthu! Namma mothele anthe kutti saitan ah kandupudikunum!" The woman hissed causing the man to growl.

" Athan yenge ponanune teriyele! Inthe building le vere matikitum!" The man shouted at the woman while the little boy whimpered as he burrowed himself on Saritha's clothes.

Anirudh frowned and looked at Saritha who looked worriedly down at the boy and then glance at Anirudh's jacket before looking at his face.

Anirudh quickly placed his hands over Saritha's mouth as her eyes went wide.

Jacky growled and bite the man's leg when he wanted to go down the stairs causing the man to yelp in pain with the woman slashed Jacky as she tried to pull the man. Jacky ended up tearing the man's flash causing him to grown in pain while he bite the woman before letting out a pain whine when the woman kicked his body.

Saritha's eyes began to tear seeing the dog slumped down just a few feet away from them. Anirudh hissed at her ears asking her to stay calm. Saritha pressed her lips together and hide the boy's view by pressing him agasint her.

The couple exhaled their breath as they saw the woman dragging the man away while shouting at him to come down.

" Let's go," Anirudh said causing Saritha to shake her head.

" Jacky," she whimpered as pearl like tears dropped down her porcelain face.

Anirudh swallowed his saliva and stood up. He held her arms and hoisted her up.

" We have to go," Anirudh said in a serious tone before dragging her down another flight of stairs. Saritha sniffled and carried the boy in her arms while she kept glancing back at where Jacky laid whining softly as it stared at her with its soulful eyes.

" Amma no cry," the boy whimpered as he wiped the tears which flow like a continous river,  down her cheeks.

Anirudh stiffened and stopped midway while Saritha hit his back before staggering slightly. Anirudh turned around and pressed his finger to her lips as they looked at each others eyes.
