Third Person Narrative

The ground felt like a nice place to lay for now. Y/N could feel that there was something broken, a rib maybe. That wouldn't stop her from getting the job done. As she rose from the ground, silently groaning she got back to her feet. She extended her hand out to Ward, to help him up just to be polite. As she extended her arm letting his weight on her limb she groaned louder in pain. Dislocated shoulder. Once he was up she leaned down trying to catch her breath.

"Fuck." She whispered in pain.

"You good?" Ward asked.

"I need you to pop it back in, my shoulder." She groaned.

As much as she knew it would hurt, it had to be done. She took a deep breath as Ward had a grip on her shoulder, preparing her for what would be next. He didn't give her a second to think, but yet just popped it back into place. She let out a small whimper as it popped back into place, moving her arm around after to get the feeling back in it.

"Back to work." She half smiled.

As they ran toward the stairs, it looked as if the situation had already been handled. Mike Peterson fell from the second floor, landing on a ticket booth. Coulson ran up to the two giving them their next instruction.

"I need you to go upstairs, we are waiting for something from Fitzsimmons." Coulson told them.

They both ran upstairs to find others SHIELD agents, but they had snipers in hand.

"I thought this was a disarm, not kill?" Y/N asked.

"We have been instructed that one of you will take the shot if absolutely necessary." A SHIELD agent replied.

Ward and Y/N looked at eachother deciding he would take the shot. They were both combat specialists, they were both qualified. It just came down to who would take charge. Death wasn't something Y/N hadn't been around before, but this was her first time back in the field since her mom had died. She didn't think the first time would be a hard choice.

"Y/N." Ward said.

She was distracted; she was lost in her thoughts, staring at the snipers.

"Y/N!" He raised his voice, shaking her out of her head.

"Sorry." She replied, "I'll do it."

She was getting over her fears, or at least trying to. She got behind the sniper, aiming at Mike Peterson, her hands borderline shaking but she kept it cool. She kept her eye on him and watched as he continued to get agitated. At that moment she prayed that Fitzsimmons would run through the door at any second. Her prayers were answered at the last moment, she didn't have to kill him.

"Don't shoot!" Screamed Simmons running over, "Here put this in the sniper, it'll cure him."

Simmons handed the purple pellet to Y/N, and she scrambled to get it into the weapon. Once she was able to get it in she aimed it back to Mr. Peterson. She aimed it perfectly in place, took a deep breath, and took the shot. She watched as the bullet went and landed on his head, thankfully not penetrating the skin. She exhaled as the once glowing man now was cooling down.

"Nice shot." Whispered Ward.

"Thanks." She whispered back.

They went back to the stairs to meet with the rest of their team. Some applauded her for the shot, but she still wasn't feeling great. The memory of her mom lingered in her mind, almost haunting her. She was physically tired from getting tossed around. She stretched her arm, still groaning from the tenderness.

"You need to be checked out." Simmons said worriedly.

"Nah it's fine, Ward already popped my shoulder back into place." She replied calmly.

"You didn't get it popped back professionally??" Yelled Simmons, "Dear heavens."

She laughed as they all began to walk out of the train station, they really were a team. Coulson lingered behind them, calling her to walk with him. As she slowed down to meet his pace, she looked at him wondering what he was going to say.

"Good work." Coulson complimented, "Glad I can rely on you to get the job done."
Y/N smiled at him, still hiding her concerns.

"Thank you sir." She replied.

"I know you weren't expecting some things about this team," Coulson continued, "But I hope you will stay."

"I will." She said with no hesitation.

"Good." He smiled, "Also we have a new member of the team."

He looked at Skye who was walking with the rest of the team. She looked back at Coulson with a surprised face.

"Ward said he'd be her CO," Coulson replied to her surprise, "I think they kind of get along."

She looked again to Skye who was talking to Ward. She noticed that they do get along, and she was glad to have a new friend. Whether she could trust her or not was still on the table.
They got back to their cars, now making their way to the bus. Once they arrived they all went their semi separate ways back to their bunks and such. Simmons led Y/N to the lab so she could fix up remaining cuts and to check out her shoulder.

"You seem okay." Simmons said cheerfully, "But next time come to me I have way more experience than Agent Ward."

"Will do." She chuckled back.

Neither of them noticed Ward standing in the doorway for a while. They talked as he observed. Y/N looked to the side, and finally noticed that he was standing there. She cleared her throat, alerting Jemma of his presence.

"Oh! Agent Ward... I actually need to go um talk to Fitz." Simmons awkwardly left the room, leaving the two of them alone.

Y/N looked at him, not with anger anymore but with sadness. She felt sad about what they had lost and all the time they had spent together. He came close to her, also staring at her, she assumed he didn't know what to say.

"Can I ask you something?" Y/N said sadly.

Ward nodded to her response.

"Did I do something wrong?" She asked, "Sorry, that sounds desperate."

"You didn't do anything wrong." Ward replied, reciprocating the sadness.

"Then what was it?" She asked, tears almost falling down her face.

"I didn't deserve you." He said, no hesitation at all.

She went back to silence. How was she supposed to respond to that? Was it really his thing to decide? Even if that's what he thought at the time, her love for him was still very real. Honestly, she felt like she still loved him now, even after everything. But nothing could happen, she wanted this team to work out, no mess allowed.

"Friends?" She sighed.

"Friends."
