Autumn picks the lock very quickly.
"Can you teach me how to do that?" I ask.
"Not right now. Maybe later." Autumn replies, smiling.
"What are we going to do with Anastasia? We can't just leave her here, she'll scream the castle down." I ask Amber.
"I suppose we'll have to set her free. She won't come with us, but if we let her out, surely she won't tell someone." Amber decides.
"Don't worry, I won't. Just let me go, I'll run away. Away from the garden and away from everyone. I'll get caught if I stay." Anastasia says.
We bolt up the stairs and out of the dungeon.
"Hey Amber. I just remembered something." I say.
"What?"
"Our brother! What happened to Jeremy?" I exclaim as quietly as I can.
"Oh, I imagine he was sent to the orphanage." Amber replies, uncertain.
"I hope so." I say. "At least he would have been safe."
"So, does anyone have a plan yet?" Kaitlin asks.
"We need to think carefully about this. Our plan could be the difference between victory and death. The plan is the most important part-" Autumn begins.
"I say we wing it!" I interrupt.
"No!" Autumn yells.
"Let's vote. All in favor of no plan?" Amber asks.
Amber, Kaitlin and I put up our hands.
"Outnumbered, Autumn. Sorry." Kaitlin says.
"Well, we can't just wander through the palace without any idea what we're doing!" Autumn shouts.
"Autumn, be quiet!" Amber cries.
"OPEN YOUR EYES! We seriously need a PLAN!" Autumn yells, without thinking.
We hear wings flapping. Guards come running at us from all directions.
"Oh, now you've done it." I mutter.
"Run!" Kaitlin yells.
"Where to?" Autumn yells back.
We are surrounded. There is no-where to go. I should feel sadness, but I don't. I feel anger. Goldie did this. She tried to kill her own sister, something I would never do, no matter how much Kaitlin drives me nuts, so she could be queen, and turned everyone against us.
I felt warmth spread from the tips of my fingers to the top of my head. I don't know what made me think of it. Before I knew it, fire was shooting out of my hands. A ring of fire surrounded us, the guards backed away. Kaitlin stared at me, with the face that says: What the?!
The pride I felt in myself was gone in seconds. Instead of being surrounded by guards, we were surrounded by fire. So, in other words, instead of being thrown in prison, we were going to die from flames licking us and melting our skin. I looked at Autumn. She didn't seem worried. On the contrary, she seemed thrilled. I didn't know why until all the guards had run away. When they left, Autumn pushed me into the flames. The ultimate betrayal! But, instead of a painful burning sensation, I felt normal air, as if the fire wasn't even there.
